We have an opportunity for two enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our friendly and supportive pharmacy team, working within the distribution and dispensary areas
Applicants without an approved level 2 pharmacy services qualification will be enrolled tostudy for an appropriate award when they start. You must be willing and able to study for the qualification. There are a number of training options but it could be as an apprenticeship.
As with other posts in a small department the role is varied and constantly evolving to meet the needs of the service. You will be based mainly in the distribution area managing stock in the department and on wards, but will also support the dispensary services.
There may be further opportunities in the future for the right candidate to study for the level 3 qualification to become a pharmacy technician once they have gained the level 2 qualification.
Main duties for the post holders include
- Assist in the supply of stock items to wards and departments.
- Receive and process orders received from wholesalers/suppliers.
- Maintain the stock and environment within pharmacy (including pharmacy stores).
- Dispense medicines under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- Update regional contracts on pharmacy computer system.
Currently there are no weekend duties, but may be expected to provide some bank holiday cover. You may also be expected to work some weekends or late nights in the future.
As a member of the pharmacy team the post holder shares responsibility for the organisation, management and supply of pharmacy services to patients and healthcare staff for the Queen Victoria Hospital NHS Foundation Trust. The pharmacy team is the hospital lead for all aspects of medicines management, including the safe and secure handling of medicines, and the clinical and cost-effective use of medicines.
