The York Graduate Research School (YGRS) connects more than 2,000 postgraduate researchers (PGRs) across all disciplines and brings together the support PGRs need to make the most of their research project.
This role will expand current work to include both PGR recruitment and marketing. The role is responsible for the development and analysis of PGR marketing and recruitment campaigns and conversion activities to generate leads for our PGR programmes. You will immerse yourself in the product portfolio and audiences and play a key role in understanding how we can build awareness and reach of the University of York postgraduate research brand globally.
This post reports directly to the Dean of York Graduate Research School with dotted line management to the Head of Student Recruitment and Marketing. The post holder will work closely with the Head of Faculty Marketing and Recruitment (HFMR) in the three faculties and help with the development of new PGR Marketing and Recruitment strategy for the University. The post holder will take ownership of the development of this strategy and make recommendations on the operational delivery of the strategy. Furthermore, the post holder will ensure all plans align to the wider University brand positioning and the central and faculty strategies for domestic and international activity.
The PGR Marketing and Recruitment Manager will need to demonstrate significant experience in effective and collaborative relationship management. You will be a creative problem-solver and have a good understanding of the challenges and opportunities of PG students, ideally PGR, recruitment across a range of subject areas. As this is a new role, you will need experience of using and understanding data to outline the current market situation, then inform and develop marketing and recruitment strategies. You will be able to develop and implement marketing and recruitment plans that clearly identify research, marketing and engagement priorities that are aligned across faculty and central teams. You should also have a good grasp of understanding and promoting academic, and ideally research, portfolios and programmes.
This role will necessitate the post holder to travel and work outside of standard working hours when required.
In addition to colleagues within their own team, the post holder is expected to have regular interactions with various central ‘hub’ teams, faculty marketing and recruitment teams and academic stakeholders.
This is a fixed term role for 6 months.
Skills, Experience & Qualification needed
Degree in Marketing (or related subject) or equivalent Marketing qualification
Demonstrable student recruitment or marketing experience and expertise
Track record of developing successful marketing campaigns
Problem solving skills
Knowledge of the postgraduate research process and funding schemes
