Join the MOD in a pivotal role dedicated to safeguarding the security, autonomy, and interests of the UK, both domestically and internationally. Collaborate closely with allies and partners to ensure our nation's security. This opportunity falls under the Directorate of Security and Resilience (DSR), situated within the MOD Head Office. The DSR is responsible for shaping, implementing, and monitoring protective security policies, providing counsel to senior officials, and setting standards for resilience and security across the Department.

This position is advertised at 37 hours per week.

Job description

As a key member of the Vetting team in DSR, you will assume a C2 role focused on personnel security clearance (Vetting) casework. You'll handle high-risk, complex, and contentious cases related to MOD Civilian and Defence Contractors. We are seeking an exceptional individual who is not only a team player but also possesses a dynamic and enthusiastic approach. This role calls for adept multitasking and adaptability. The position offers substantial autonomy in decision-making while fostering a close-knit team environment.

Person specification

What will the successful candidate be doing?

Analyse personnel security clearance applications and make well-informed, risk-based decisions.

Collaborate with local risk owners to mitigate identified risks and ensure thorough assessments.

Swiftly respond to Vetting suspensions, issuing written notifications to relevant parties in cases of immediate security concerns.

Provide precise, timely advice and assessments for denial and withdrawal cases to DSR Vetting Casework Manager and others.

Manage appeal cases through the internal appeals process and the Security Vetting Appeals Panel.

Offer guidance to key stakeholders (e.g., Human Resources, Security community) on postings, appointments, and access to sensitive information.

Contribute to shaping Personnel Security Policy and partake in Secretariat tasks like responding to Treat Official and Ministerial Correspondence.

Required qualities:

  • Exhibit strong interpersonal and organisational skills due to regular interaction at senior levels.
  • Showcase initiative by proactively identifying emerging issues and finding solutions.
  • Demonstrate excellent writing skills.
  • Proficiency in IT tools, including Excel and Outlook.

Preferred experience:

  • Familiarity with personnel security casework is advantageous.
