Solicitor, Legal Executive or Paralegal – Manchester – The main purpose of this position is to play a major part in bringing about a high-performing Paralegal capability in the Casualty Team of this major law firm through the newly created Paralegal Academy. The Paralegal Academy focuses on the recruitment, training, development and retention of talented Paralegals who form a continuous stream of talent in the Casualty department.

Background to the position

The Casualty team of this leading law firm is looking for someone to head up their new and exciting Paralegal Academy. This is a non-fee earning, strategic role designed for an experienced fee earner or insurance specialist who is looking to bring their skill set to a brand new initiative within the firm. Perhaps you are an experienced lawyer with experience of leading teams and being involved in everything from performance management to recruitment and talent retention.

Or perhaps you have experience liaising with Partners and other key stakeholders including HR to help uphold positive culture and behaviours. Either way, we would like to hear from you. This initiative is designed to bring real focus on the valuable pool of Paralegal talent within the Casualty team of this leading defendant insurance team.

Recruiting the right candidate

The intention is to recruit an experienced lawyer or someone who has worked within the insurance sector to create an efficient Paralegal Academy. The Academy will help in developing Paralegal talent in the Casualty group whilst helping drive performance whilst ensuring that Partners and other stakeholders benefit from a continuous source of talent with the right skills and attributes. In particular, the successful candidate will:

  • Help furnish a supportive and learning-driven community for the firm’s Paralegals to develop;
  • Promote positive behaviours and culture;
  • Help manage and drive performance;
  • Help ‘sell’ to paralegal offering to senior stakeholders;
  • Help identify, retain and develop talent;
  • Identify and assess any resource requirements;
  • Continuously improve the Paralegal Academy offering.

A snapshot of the position

This is a multi-faceted role which will encapsulate a number of functions including:

  • Liaise and partner with other areas of the firm such as HR, recruitment and early careers;
  • Work closely with Partners, Directors and other senior stakeholders;
  • Developing effective retention strategies;
  • Encouraging the attraction and retention of talent from less represented groups within the firm;
  • Assessing attrition including evaluating and analysing reasons for leaving, to improve retention;
  • Developing technical training with Training Managers and Career Development team;
  • Working with HR Operations regarding performance, conduct and wellbeing;
  • Promoting a culture of feedback with senior stakeholders regarding performance and benefits of Paralegal Academy.
