Job title: Personal assistant (PA)
Reporting to: Tracy McDermott
Location: Horsforth
Job purpose:
To assist with a variety of tasks which will enable/assist the person who needs care and support to live their personal and social life according to their wishes and interests.
About the employer:
  • 13 year old boy with a number of medical needs and high functioning aspergers syndrome with a very limiting eating disorder, some mobility and continence issues caused by a brain tumour and resultant brain injury in early life. He is slightly hearing impaired though does not enjoy wearing his hearing aids. He loves trains, dogs, video games, bowling, the cinema and chicken nuggets, but does need some encouragement to be convinced to leave the comfort and security of his home. Initially finds inter personal relationships difficult but bonds very well once he develops a trusting relationship.
Main duties:
Social duties, support to:
  • Play and make projects, art and model making
  • Play video games
  • Attend activities outside the home such as museums
  • Attend social events such as bowling or the cinema
Personal care, Occasional toileting assistance and reminding to go to the toilet. Assistance with food where required.
These duties may vary from day to day.

Specific requirements, understanding or experience of people with ASC, medical issues and social difficulty.
What you can expect to receive:
Full training will be given in meeting his specific needs, you will be fully supported during your induction/first fewweeks of working by parents.
You can expect to build a great and rewarding relationship with an individual who has much to offer by way of humour and conversation. You will learn an incredible amount about Pokemon and the great age of Steam trains.
Hours of work:
6hours per week - flexible hours to be mutually agreed.
Rate of pay:
£10.50 per hour
Skills, qualifications and experience –
Essential:
  • Driving licence
  • Car and appropriate insurance
  • Some care experience preferred
  • Confidentiality
  • Good at building relationships
Preferred:
  • Good communicator
  • Likes dogs or other pets
  • A good listener
  • Ability to support people with behaviours which challenge.
