About the Employer

I am both the mother and employer to my 11year-old son who has a diagnosis of Autism and learning difficulties. He lives at home with his father, older sibling, and me, spending all his social time with family members. My son is classed as nonverbal; however, he does use some BSL, Makaton and has some limited vocabulary that he uses to articulate what he wants, as well as nonverbal prompts and actions. We are seeking a PA to provide weekly support to encourage and allow my son the opportunity to access activities within the local community. The PA role will be to engage him in his chosen interests, as well as introducing him to new experiences and building a social support network outside of the family home, The role is to befriend and assist him in developing life skills, which in turn will promote his independence, confidence, and self-esteem. PA support will offer my son the attention and assistance he will require when out and about. My son has a very friendly disposition; he is an extremely friendly, engaging outgoing but energetic boy who loves being outdoors and who enjoys the company and attention of others. He enjoys being active and is willing to do most things that will keep him occupied and busy. He enjoys most things associated to his age such as riding his bike, trampolining, swimming, going to the beach and parks, gardening and enjoys watching construction staff at work. There may be the odd time the PA will be required to provide activities within the home.
