Job title: Personal assistant (PA)

Job purpose
To assist with a variety of tasks which will enable the person who needs care and support to live their personal and social life according to their wishes and interests.
Main duties
The support worker would need to be able to take the child out into the community to local parks in her wheelchair or on her tricycle.
The support worker will support the child with some early years play activities.
The support worker will be assisting the child with personal care needs, including pad changing. The support workers must have personal care training experience to meet the child’s personal care needs with dignity.
Support workers must use symbols, signs and gestures to communicate with the child, accompanying these with simple one step verbal sentences.
The support worker should maintain the domestic environment to the required standard, ensuring regard is given to health and safety and hygiene.
The support worker may be required to help with some household tasks.
Child Mother’s helper. The duties may vary from day-to-day.
Type of person that you/they are looking for
- Personal qualities: The support worker needs to be empathetic, compassionated, patient, quiet, calm, nurturing, reliable, positive, flexible, adaptable, easy going, able to work alone, have a sense of humour and understand equality and diversity. It's desirable that the support worker likes to walk in the community with the supported person.
- Child needs: The child expresses herself through vocalisations, reaching out to objects, body language and facial expression.
- She can walk short distances and has a wheelchair to use when in the community. The child needs to spend time on outdoor activities such going for a ride in the local area.
- The child enjoys listening to instrumental music, using a swing, listening, and watching adults reading for her some early years books and modelling with playdough, shape sorter cube, kicking the ball, and some cause-effect toys.
- The child learning is based on explorative play, and sometimes she explores the world using her mouth. The child does not cope well with overly chatty people. The child should not be rushed or stressed in everyday situations.
- The child has personal care needs, including pad changing. The child needs close supervision all the time.
Hours of work: Part time. Negotiable/flexible hours & days.
Rate of pay: £10.42 per hour
Skills, qualifications, and experience
Desirable experience working with children with severe to profound learning difficulties and complex needs, childcare studies, first aid training.
It would be an advantage if the support worker has early years and childcare qualifications, and knowledge of Makaton/singalong and first aid training.
