The Originator will primarily oversee the production of the Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) required for the safe delivery of Operational tasks within the facility as part of the Laboratory Operations team. This role will be based in Windscale and is accountable to the Production Delivery Team Manager.
The role holder will be involved with and be responsible for overseeing work through from conception to delivery completion. This will include but is not limited to:
- Understanding and agreeing the project / task scope with all relevant stakeholders.
- Assisting the Operations Task Supervisor to ensure successful safe delivery of Operational projects/tasks ‘On Time in Full Without Complaint’.
- Producing a full and comprehensive SSoW, including generation of risk assessments, method statements and all associated documentation.
- Reporting back to all relevant stakeholders with progress updates during preparation readiness and physical delivery, which also includes emerging issues, risks and delays.
- When required, providing physical supervision of work being delivered and with this taking responsibility for all team members behaviours, working standards, training and compliance activities.
Role Responsibility
Main Responsibilities for Person Organising Work (Originator):
- Production of a full and comprehensive SSoW with all associated documentation, which will be based on the agreed scope requirements.
- Liaise with all stakeholders including but not limited to Duly Authorised Person (DAP), Safe System of Work Controller (SSC), Integration Leads, Technical Authors, PMP Authors, PMP Managers and Project Managers to ensure work delivery is achieved ‘On Time in Full Without Complaint’.
- Understands their area of responsibility and how this interfaces with other personnel within Operations, Engineering and Projects.
- Communicate daily progress updates back to Production Delivery Team Manager as well as ensuring a comprehensive log of all activities undertaken is complete.
- Clearly communicate systems of work effectively to all persons under their control, who may be directly or indirectly affected by the operation/s.
- Understands and follows the procedure for reporting unusual occurrences and failures where necessary and takes the appropriate action to protect personnel and the environment.
- Obtaining and controlling all relevant resources, such as people (skills and knowledge), plant and materials.
- Performs direct supervision to Operational tasks within Windscale when required.
- Defining, with the stakeholders, the level of supervision required and who is accountable for supervision of safety.
- Ensuring that the appointed task supervisor is carrying out the following:
- Agreed supervision levels are implemented.
- Workplace checks are carried out.
- Effective pre-jobs are carried out.
- Effective handover/hand back is carried out.
- At each handover all the people involved fully understand their responsibilities.
- Effective post job reviews are carried out. (Learning from experience).
The Ideal Candidate
Essential Criteria for Person Organising Work (Originator):
- IOSH Managing Safely.
- Knowledge of Sellafield and Windscale Site Procedures.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Drive and energy with a strong aptitude for problem solving.
- Ability to work individually and as part of a team.
- Ability to keep accurate and detailed records.
- Conversant with the IT Microsoft office work packages.
- Excellent facilitation skills.
- Ability to obtain SC level security clearance (this includes but is not limited to identity, employment, financial and criminal record checks plus 5 years’ worth of UK residency).
Desirable Criteria for Person Organising Work (Originator):
- Familiarity with B13 would be an advantage.
- Working knowledge of LLW / ILW waste disposal operations.
