Job description

LET’S CUT STRAIGHT TO IT

Want to do the best work of your life? Playing your part in making a big difference to the environment and communities we serve. Our people make Severn Trent a truly exciting and inclusive place to work – a place where you can be yourself and let your skills shine.

Our purpose is taking care of life’s essentials, but we’re also big on making a difference, not just because we should but because we care.

Are you a self-starter with great organisation skills? Do you have strong passion for the environment and sustainability?

If so, we have the perfect role for you!...

LET’S TELL YOU MORE

Severn Trent Connect is a small statutory wastewater company (NAV), working closely with its clients to unlock land for development by addressing water quality challenges. We combine technical knowledge and extensive experience in the water industry with an adaptive, client-focussed approach.

As our Permits & Compliance Specialist, you will play a key role in the Compliance Team, preparing for and then completing Environment Agency wastewater discharge permit applications, liaising as required with external consultants and regulatory bodies. You’ll be collaborating with the other business teams to ensure activities are aligned to permit requirements, as well as managing action plans to ensure all required improvements for compliance is implemented effectively. You’ll also get involved in other activities the Compliance Team manage, such as ISO14001 certification.

Due to the nature of this role you'll need to be based near Canterbury, Kent where the Severn Trent Connect offices are based, holding a full UK driving licence as travel within England and potentially Wales will be required.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Our ideal candidate will have strong data analytical skills and attention to detail, enabling you to convey complex information articulately and produce factually accurate documentation. We’re also seeking practical experience of the environmental permitting process preferably in the water or wastewater industry. The ability to complete Environmental Risk & Impact Assessments would be considered advantageous.

Of course, it’s important that we attract the right skill sets, and those with the right experience but we value character, positivity, and a caring attitude in equal weight.

We want people who show up and roll their sleeves up. Restless spirits who are ready to be part of something bigger, who care, who really care... because when you really care, you’ll go above and beyond. When you really care you don’t just talk about it, you do more.

We welcome people from all walks of life and celebrate individuality as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our communities. We employ thousands of people from across our community who really care about what they do. Because that is how we do what we do.

And when it comes to inclusion, we’re making sure we keep up the progress with our wonderful working groups – LGBTQ+, Women in Operations & STEM, Disability and Ethnicity; who help us do just that.

We do more, because we care.

HOW WE’LL REWARD AND CARE FOR YOU IN RETURN

It’s not just a job you’ll get here, you’ll get a career too. We have a range of benefits that reward and recognise great work and award-winning training to ensure you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the community in which we live. Here’s some of our favourites:

  • Annual bonus scheme of up to 15% of your annual salary (based on company performance & eligibility)
  • Fantastic Pension scheme – The company contribution will be twice your contribution (Up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)
  • Comprehensive flexible benefits scheme including Gymflex, Dental and Critical Illness Insurance and our Technology Scheme where you can spread payment for a variety of Technology purchases
  • A chance to save up to £500 per month for three or five years, with the option to buy Severn Trent Plc shares at a discounted rate
