We are delighted to be advertising this new opportunity for a motivated and enthusiastic nursery nurse to join our perinatal mental health team within the Parent and Baby day unit.
The role will involve supporting mums in the antenatal and postnatal period experiencing moderate to severe mental health difficulties. This may include work around bonding and attachment. You will work alongside families, carers and other health professionals to provide high quality care to both mum and baby.
The appointed individual will need to be innovative, compassionate and motivated. They will need to have a passion to support mothers, babies and their families working to make a positive contribution to they recovery journey.
To offer support to the nursing team providing a safe environment for baby to be cared for while mum attends appointments.
To offer individual sessions to a mum and baby, for example baby massage, baby yoga, education around parent craft and play.
To offer group sessions where appropriate which may include partners.
To offer support both in the day hospital and community setting.
At the Parent and Baby unit we offer a day hospital service, community team and are currently developing the maternal mental health pathway.
You will be part of our multi-disciplinary team working alongside psychiatrists, CPN’s, psychologist, health care support workers, admin and peer support workers. This is an exciting time for our team as we are currently developing new pathways within the team
To assist in the provision of quality, evidence based care for women experiencing moderate to severe mental illness, by providing advice and support on Early Years parenting and child care. The Nursery Nurse will work as a member of the wider Perinatal Mental Health Service assisting the multidisciplinary team in meeting the needs of women and their families by undertaking delegated duties that support family centred care. The post holder will ensure that there is appropriate communication with other professionals and agencies involved in the care of the mother and child.
Under the supervision of the care coordinator, the post holder will provide support and education to defined caseload of women with moderate to severe perinatal mental health problems, and those with pre-existing severe mental health disorders to help promote well-being, promote mother-infant relationships and reduce risk, during a vulnerable time for women’s mental health. They will contribute to holistic community assessments, in a range of settings, with a strong emphasis on the parent-infant relationship and safeguarding.
