Job description
Depop is the community-powered fashion marketplace to buy and sell unique fashion, with over 30 million registered users in more than 150 countries. Depop is a place for anyone to discover and celebrate their style on their own terms, and to feel good about their fashion choices by extending the lives of millions of garments.
The company was founded in 2011 and is headquartered in London with offices in Manchester and New York. Depop has approximately 400 employees dedicated to its mission of building the world’s most diverse progressive home of fashion, that’s kinder on the planet and kinder to people. In 2021, Depop became a wholly-owned subsidiary of Etsy - the global marketplace for unique and creative goods - and continues to operate as a standalone company.
Depop is an equal opportunity employer. Our mission is to build the world’s most diverse progressive home of fashion. To do this, we encourage people from underrepresented communities to apply. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We’re continuing to build recruitment processes that are fair and welcome requests for reasonable adjustments required throughout your interview experience with us. Depop supports visa sponsorship, sponsorship opportunities may be limited to certain roles and skillsets.
You’ll play a key role in our People Partnering team supporting employees and managers across the entire company. We know that in a People role, we’re responsible for communicating to our employees about things that really matter to them, even when it’s not all good news. You’ll be someone who keeps employee experience at the forefront of how you work and communicate.
Managers and employees at Depop will look to you for your sound advice on generalist People topics, and you’ll work closely with the People Partners and wider People Operations team to manage employee relations cases and support on projects that will shape employee experience at Depop as we continue to scale. You’ll have the potential to develop your career with us as we grow, with the potential to move into a People Partner role in the future or explore other opportunities within People Ops.
Responsibilities:
-
Manage our employee relations caseload, covering disciplinaries, grievances and performance improvement. You’ll take a fair and supportive approach to:
- Driving best practice in how we approach and resolve cases, coaching case managers as needed,
- Ensuring cases are managed with dignity and respect for all involved,
- Showing a balanced understanding of the business needs and individual context,
- Writing clear notes, invite and outcome letters, and keeping our ER tracker up to date.
- Manage the Occupational Health process to support team members and their managers in making reasonable adjustments
- Provide end-to-end family leave processes and documentation (Maternity, Paternity, Shared Parental and Adoption Leave)
- Coach and advise managers on a wide variety of generalist People matters, escalating to People Partners as appropriate
- Implement and evolve People policies across Depop, identifying ways to continuously improve our policies and procedures
- Support with delivery of the People agenda and change initiatives through project work on topics such as performance management, employee engagement and wellbeing
- Analyse and interpret data to test assumptions and ensure we are using evidence to support decisions and provide recommendations
- Help drive and embed diversity practices into all that we do and support the delivery of Depop’s DEI objectives within People
- Embed our Depop DNA as a core part of how we frame decisions, design and deliver People solutions
You’ll be a great fit for this role if you have:
- Proven experience advising managers and employees within a People / HR function. CIPD isn’t a must-have - we’re just as happy for you to have gained hands-on experience throughout your career so far
- Experience in handling and resolving employee relations and performance improvement cases and confidence in being our go-to person for them
- A solid understanding of UK employment law, and even better if you’ve worked with the US before, but don’t let that stop you from applying if you haven’t
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to communicate complex or difficult information with clarity and empathy
- Some experience evolving People policies or processes
- A passion for providing a first-class service to managers and employees, and drive for the best outcomes.
- Experience in a technology scale-up environment would be beneficial, though not a deal breaker for us.
