The Early Intervention in Psychosis Service (EIP) in Nottinghamshire Healthcare Foundation NHS Trust has secured significant investment to expand the service and the next step in the development of the At-Risk Mental State (ARMS) pathway. The post holder will be working alongside members of the EIP service, service users and carers to develop an ARMS pathway from the beginning.
Consequently, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a passionate and highly motivatedPeer Support Worker (Band 3)to join our team, working across the Mid Notts, Bassetlaw and Nottingham city ( central & north) . This is a brand new role within the service and the post holder will be in a prime position to shape both the role but also the service offered to Service Users and their support network.
The EIP service in Nottinghamshire is delivered through a multidisciplinary team of practitioners who provide comprehensive assessments and evidence-based treatments for people aged 14-65 who are experiencing a First Episode Psychosis (FEP) or an At Risk Mental State (ARMS) for the development of psychosis. The role is based primarily within the the new ARMS pathway, and the post holder will be an essential part of of this new addition to the Early Intervention in Psychosis service
The role of peer support worker has been developed specifically for people who have had lived experience mental distress. Peer support workers use their experiences to offer empathy, hope and understanding to others. In this role will offer peer support alongside practical assistance to enable people to feel in control of their lives and their own unique recovery process. Within a relationship of mutuality and shared experience, they will promote choice, self-determination and opportunities for the fulfilment of socially valued roles and connection to local communities.
You will have a keen interest in working with the client groups served by EIP and a desire to effectively support service users and their families. A good understanding of the principles, ethos, assessments and interventions associated with working within an Early Intervention in Psychosis team will be key and you will be willing to undertake specific training to contribute to the successful delivery of a high quality NICE concordant service.

As a core member of the EIP ( ARMS) multi-disciplinary team, the peer support worker will work alongside carer’s who are supporting people in the community. Focusing but not working exclusively on the At-Risk Mental State (ARMS) pathway , the peer support worker will pro-actively engage with the service users and their support network to ensure care is collaborative, recovery focused and evidence based. The peer support worker will use active listening skills and the core principles of peer support to build supportive connections with staff members, carer’s and people are being supported by services. The peer support worker will also contribute to daily team processes such as contributing to care plans, offering practical care and support with everyday living. It is expected that the carer peer support worker will undertake every interaction with a recovery focused, positive approach.
The EIP team is a community-based service which operates Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. The post-holder will be required to travel across Nottinghamshire to support the needs of service users, their family members and carers. The use of digital technologies to support service need and delivery are likely to be required within this role.

Successful applicants with no prior NHS experience would normally be placed at the bottom of Agenda for Change Band 3. This salary is below the minimum salary required for sponsorship for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa. In these circumstances the Trust would not, therefore, be able to sponsor for a Skilled Worker / Health & Care visa.
