Workshop Generator Engineer
Responsible to: Service Supervisor
Main Purpose of the Role:
Due to continued growth and success, we are currently looking to recruit an in-house engineer to undertake Pre-Delivery Inspections (PDI’s) and ensure generator sets arrive at customer sites and operate correctly.
The main duties of this role are Pre-delivery inspections and testing of JCB generators from 20-780KVA , Servicing, modifications and Repairs to JCB Generator Equipment to the highest standard.
This is a Depot based role. You will need to promote and present a professional image and offer service solutions to our customers and frequently liaise with JCB Manufacturer.
The objective of this role is to provide the customer with World Class customer service.
- Undertake PDI’s on generating sets, ensuring perfect operation of all aspects prior to delivery / installation at customer sites
- Carry out minor and major services to diesel engine generator sets.
- Control system wiring
- Program Deepsea controllers to customer requirements
- PLC / Deep Sea / Deif programming work
- Participate in additional site duties such as loading/unloading sets from transport and assisting other colleagues
- Attendance at relevant product training courses
- Prepared to work unsociable hours
Core Hours:
40 hours working week, 08.00 – 16.30 hours, half an hour unpaid lunch break
Powergen Qualifications (desirable not essential):
Mechanical engineering
Electrical engineering
IEE regs – 18th Edition (beneficial)
Role Requirements:
Candidates to be within 30 minutes travel from home to the depot of the vacancy.
- Sound mechanical and electrical experience working with generators
- Knowledge of the JCB Generator or an in-depth knowledge of diesel Generators (desirable)
- In depth Knowledge of Lithium Power packs and control systems
- Excellent team player happy to assist others
- Clean driving licence and good driving record
- Proof of right to work in the UK

- Call out – initial payment of £50.00 normal working week, £75.00 bank holiday working week and £100.00 Christmas period for being on call. If called out any hours worked would be first 4 hours at time and a half rate, over and above first 4 hours double time rate. Frequency of rota system varies from depot to depot and would be discussed during the interview process with the relevant Depot Manager.
