Introduction to the role of the team:
This role is working in the Central Payments Team which is responsible for the payment of invoices
received by the Council for the goods and services it buys. We are responsible for checking invoices for accuracy and processing for payment through the councils automated payments and financial management systems, process applications for purchase cards and validating purchase card transactions, follow up on outstanding transaction approvals to ensure payments are made promptly and accurately. We also provide customer service support to suppliers of the Council and the different service areas and council run schools, answering general enquiries and addressing issues that may arise regarding payments and the use of purchase cards.
Your role:
- Working with high levels of accuracy for tasks such as checking documents, invoices, recording numerical and alphabetical information.
- Identify problems and areas for improvement and offer solutions.
- Work unsupervised using your own initiative to adhere to timescales, deadlines and manage your own workload.
- Carry out administrative duties such as scanning, photocopying, processing scanned mail, diary management and responding to e mails.
- Ability to collate data and use to produce reports.
- Knowledge and experience of adhering to procedures and legislation relating to confidential information.
- Willing to abide by the Councils Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety policies.
- Willing to actively participate in training and development activities to ensure up to date knowledge, skills and continuous professional development.

- Work with, and within multiple teams and contribute to its development with suggestions for new ways of working.
- Work on your own and use initiative to adhere to timescales and deadlines.
- Knowledge of the applications, systems and IT programmes utilised by the service and being able to accurately record and retrieve information.
- Good numeracy and literacy skills and the ability to deal with complex tasks with support.
- An understanding of the importance of providing excellent customer services and experience of dealing positively with challenging situations.

Job purpose:
