Patrol Boat Crew – Christchurch Harbour
If you are passionate about the local environment and the community benefits it provides, then an exciting opportunity exists for you with BCP Council Seafront Operations. We are looking for enthusiastic, self-motivated and experienced people to join our Seafront Team.
A position is now open for application, to work alongside Seafront Operations as part of the Christchurch Harbour Patrol Boat Service.
You will be required to assist in operating the patrol boat, undertaking such duties and responsibilities assigned to the patrol boat team in order to deliver a responsive marine patrol service. The successful applicant will be based in Christchurch Harbour. This is a challenging but rewarding role only available to candidates who hold a RYA Powerboat Level 2 Certificate, VHF Radio Operators License and RYA First Aid Certificate (or equivalent). Applicants must be available to start their new role at the end of May/beginning of June and work through until September.
You will need to be able to work as part of a team and independently as required using your own initiative. Enthusiasm and commitment to providing a safe and inclusive marine environment is essential. To support this, the position involves preparing and safely navigating the patrol boat for daily operations as well as enforcing local byelaws by observing, pursuing and engaging with vessels suspected of byelaw offences. The dynamic nature of the role means a flexible approach is crucial to work in accordance with tidal and weather patterns.
A disposition to promote high standards of customer care and communication skills is essential for this post. You will be an integral member of the Seafront Operations Team ensuring Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole is a great place to live, work and visit.
Successful applicants will work in shifts covering up to 5 days in 7, including some Bank Holidays and weekends up to 37 hours per week. The applicant will also be expected to work outdoors for the majority of each shift in order to perform their duties.
