Job description
Supporting and executing full range of patient services activities throughout the hospital by ensuring that patients, medical equipment and products are escorted/transported with care around the hospital in a timely manner.
To work closely with colleagues to provide assistance where required and respond to the different needs of all wards and departments.
Working as an effective team member, the post holder is expected to be flexible and work effectively with colleagues within the Trust and department.
- To deliver excellent Customer services at all times..
- Transfer of Patients from Accident and Emergency, Radiology, Wards and Clinics.
- Collect specimens at scheduled timings and adhock requests.
- Working in Accident and Emergency supporting the department with patient transfers, holding the bleep.
- Communicate with Team Leader by radio.
- Respond to Emergency situations, Fire or Major Incidents as a support presence.
- Mortuary duties transfer of deceased patients with care and
- compassion.
- Carry out : -out of hours duties, gas cylinder, linen trolleys, medical equipment and any other reasonable requests.

- Transportation and delivery of samples (in appropriate containers) and forms to pathology lab and delivery of items from pathology lab to wards and clinics.
- Delivery of drugs and controlled drugs to wards and theatres from pharmacy and the collection and delivery of TTO (drugs) and forms to pharmacy and wards.
- Collection of empty ward boxes.
- Transportation and delivery of request forms and case notes to and from wards, clinics, offices and medical records.
- Movement of beds, and associated equipment and furniture within the Trust.
- Provision of security presence within the hospital (doors, locks etc.).
- Responding to fire alarms within hospital and staff accommodation and check source of alarm etc.
- General mortuary duties, collecting deceased patients from wards, out of hours and at weekends, reception of deceased from outside agencies, laying out and preparing for family viewings and police identifications (under exceptional circumstances, subject to relevant trainings being received).
- Maintain medical gas cylinder stocks throughout the Trust
- Delivery and collection of clean linen trolleys to and from wards, departments and required areas
- To move furniture to waste compound for disposal
- To move any furniture that is requested for movement from one area to another (this could include offices/wards/depts.).
- To maintain high personal hygiene at all times
- To collect/deliver specimens from all wards/depts. to the pathology laboratory
- To collect blood products from the blood bank and deliver to wards/depts., collection of special waste (venesected blood, radioactive blood) and delivering to collection point using prescribed procedures.
- To collect drugs from wards/depts. and deliver to the requested area
- To assist the site-manager in times of peak activity within the Trust
- Ensure all equipment has been regularly maintain
- Cover reception desk out of hours, responsibility for signing keys in and out, dealing with enquiries from the public by phone or in person, duties for access to staff accommodation for lockouts or lost keys.
- Recording all ad-hoc jobs in log and dispatching personnel over the radio device.
- Responding to cardiac arrests, to be available to replace equipment in the event of equipment failure, replacement of spent oxygen cylinders and transport of urgent bloods to lab.
