Patient Care Associate|Radiology|M-F 10:30-7:00

- Assists with patient specimen collection.
- Assists with equipment preparation and set up.
- Assists in providing a safe and comfortable patient/family experience.
- Assists with meeting patient/family comfort needs.
- Maintains patient and family confidentiality.
- Responds to patients and family requests, including answering patient call lights in a timely manner.
- Seeks registered nurse assistance when necessary to meet patient/family needs.
- Communicates in a respectful manner.
- Monitors patient for safety and reports changes immediately to RN.
- Documents aspects of care on approved forms.
- Participates as part of the multidisciplinary team to meet patient/family and unit/department needs.
- Accepts delegated responsibilities that are within their defined role.
- Provides care appropriate to age group of patients on assigned unit(s) as described in the relevant unit profiles.
- Performs duties related to the Patient Care Associate role that are delegated by a registered nurse
- Knowledge of English language sufficient to read, speak, and write accurately.
- Knowledge of simple arithmetic.
- Ability to lift and transport patients using the appropriate physical technique in a safe manner for the patient and self.
- Under the direction of the registered nurse, NP, PA or MD, the PCA will perform the following duties specific to Imaging:
- Performs blood glucose testing
- Records 12 lead ECG
- Phlebotomy
- Takes and records vital signs including height and weight
- Documentation of data collection in accordance to departmental standards
- Maintaining par levels and reordering supplies
- Assists with activities of daily living
- Performs preventative skin care
- Sets up food trays
- Feeds patients
- Assists patients with positioning, turning, mobilization, and passive and active ROM per plan
- Removes and applies splints/devices
- Applies compression boots and antiembolic stockings
- Assists with turning/deep breathing/coughing
- Adheres to standard precautions
- Adheres to hand hygiene guidelines
- Performs tube care/foley care
- Performs ostomy care on established ostomy
- Assists with tracheostomy care including ventilatory support with ambu bag in the presence of healthcare professional
- Discontinues short peripheral IV catheters
- Assists with arrival/discharge process
- Orients patient to surroundings
- Ensures safekeeping of patient valuable
- Packs and stores patient's belongs
- Checks patients for ID bands/universal protocol
- Obtains doppler pulses
- Equipment
- Retrieves equipment from other areas
- Cleans equipment between patient use
- Sets up equipment for patient use
- Set up Cardiac monitors
- Portable oxygen cylinder
- Nasal cannula
- Simple Venturi mask
- Aerosol nebulizer system
- Pulse oximeter and probe
- Suction canister-liner system
- In the RICA, Imaging Intermediate Care Area the PCA removes the medications from the pneumatic tube system and delivers them directly to the registered nurse responsible for the patient.
- Documents on Approved Forms
- Charts intake of fluids and food and urine, stool, emesis and drain output
- Records vital signs
- Records blood glucose results and verbally reports to responsible RN
- In collaboration with the Nurse Manager and Clinical Nurse Specialist, identifies and meets learning needs. Completes annual required training and updates knowledge through periodic in-services.
