Patient Care Assistant
Salary: £10.58 per hour
Location: 608 Veterinary Practice, Solihull
Job Type: Permanent, Full-time
Hours: 37 hours per week. There will be a Rota that involves 1 weekend in 6, a week of 7am starts and a week of 9pm finishes.
As a Patient Care Assistant you will work alongside the clinical team. The role is varied and the ability to work under pressure and multitask is essential. The ideal candidate will be positive, friendly, and service-orientated.
The ideal candidate will have a good background in animal handling, with previous veterinary care experience preferred. The ideal candidate will have an Animal Care qualification, but this is not essential. High standards of patient care and premises management need to be maintained at all times.
Roles and responsibilities:
Giving oral medication under supervision- Completing paperwork to ensure accurate monitoring of all in-patient care
- Feeding in-patients, noting specific dietary needs
- Exercising in-patients
- Bathing and grooming in-patients if required
- Deep Cleaning kennels, the hospital and other practice areas
- Operating the laundry equipment
- Checking stock levels and ordering supplies as necessary
- Supporting the Clinical and Reception team
- Answering calls and assisting owners
- General housekeeping
- Operating lab equipment to run tests
- Supporting nurse team in Dispensary
Training will be provided. You may also have the opportunity to move onto Nurse training if successful in meeting set achievements.

608 Vet Practice was founded in 1932 in Knowle. In 1951, services transferred to our current main surgery at 608 Warwick Road, Solihull.
Part of the Linnaeus Group, we aspire to deliver a Gold Star service, constantly looking for ways to improve. Our two branch surgeries in Acocks Green and Bentley Heath have been established for over forty years, there may be occasions when you’re required to work at different branches.
All surgeries offer a full range of routine veterinary care:
Consultations, Vaccinations, Flea and worm treatments, Microchipping, Neutering, Nutritional advice, Advice on taking pets abroad, Repeat Prescriptions.
Patients requiring hospitalisation are cared for 24 hours a day at the Solihull surgery, where our dedicated emergency team is based.
Our hospitalisation facilities include walk-in kennels for bigger dogs, an isolation area for infectious cases, separate cat ward, incubators for extra warmth and oxygen and vivaria for our more exotic patients.
Our operating facilities allow us to perform a range of surgery from routine neutering procedures to complex repairs of broken bones.
We are proud to have one of the most advanced in-house laboratories in the country run by our experienced lab technician with vet nurse support.
In addition, our modern digital X-ray equipment and Ultrasound machine provide essential information to make a diagnosis.
Our professional and highly experienced team strive to provide excellent quality veterinary care for pets throughout their life.
