We have a fantastic opportunity for a Patient Care Assistant to join our team here at Seadown Vet Hospital in Hythe!
This is a full time position working 38.5 hours per week. The following hours are:
- Tues - 8am-5pm
- Weds - 11am-7pm
- Thurs - 11.30am-7pm
- Fri - 8am-5pm
- Sat - 8am-6pm
All of the above shifts include a 1hr unpaid lunch break.
This position will involve the following:
- Assisting the Veterinary nurse in kennels with the care of the day and inpatients
- Assisting the Veterinary Nurse/ Surgeon with procedures such as holding for blood sampling
- Cleaning and sterilising the equipment used for surgical procedures
- Cleaning of general areas around the practice
- Receiving and unpacking our daily order
From September 2024, we would look to enrol you onto the Veterinary Nurse training course at MYF Aldershot. This is a day release course over a period of 3 years; you will receive your own clinical coach at our practice to help you through your OneFile. Before this we would look at moving you onto the nurses rota (usually the June before college starts) to start shadowing and learning each shift. This is where you will learn and begin being involved with admitting/dismissing patients, monitoring general anaesthetics, caring for patients in kennels as well as learning how to use our in-house laboratory equipment
The PCA role is one of the foundations of an outstanding veterinary practice, as a PCA you would be involved in supporting our team of qualified RVNs and Vets to provide outstanding care to our patients, working alongside a lovely team of people. We are looking for someone who really cares about animals. Our ideal candidate will have had some experience with animals before, have excellent interpersonal skills and be a real team player.
Experience and Qualifications needed:
Our ideal applicant will be reliable with a willingness to learn and to be able to work within a team. Previous experience in a veterinary environment is essential.
- Five GCSEs at grade C and above (or equivalent), which must include English language, maths and a science subject.
OR
- An animal nursing assistant (ANA) or veterinary care assistant (VCA) qualification, along with functional skills level two in application of number and communication.
The salary for this position will be in line with National Minimum Wage +3% cost of living increase.
