Job description
Wanted - All round super star!
It’s people that make Bournemouth Gateway Club the amazing, busy, loud, vibrant, social, leisure and learning community for adults with learning disabilities that we are today. Our members, our volunteers and our staff.
We are looking for an additional part time member of staff to work 2 days per week and it could be on Wednesday, Thursday or Friday to cover whatever is going on that week. You would need to be available on any of those three days and be flexible. There may be the opportunity of 3 days a week in the future. The hours are 10.15 to 2.15 each day. There may be occasional extra hours for social events etc. The starting rate of pay in £10.50 per hour.
We are looking for someone friendly, outgoing, flexible, pro-active, positive, enabling, great multi-tasker, confident to deal with whatever is thrown at them, able to lead a small group in an activity or outing, be understanding and empathetic but firm and fair too. Everyday is different – you might be supporting members to do an exercise class (yes you do have to join in!) sitting quietly for a chat over a colouring, supporting a small group to access the community, sorting out a friendship problem, dealing with a meltdown, celebrating successes, or washing up!
We would like someone to lead in supporting members to ‘get digital’ so an ability to use a laptop or tablet, access information online, support online learning etc would be an advantage. No mad skills required but if you can manage online shopping and a bit of googling and can support members to have a go too – that’s what we need!
We are a very small local charity, affiliated to but not part of Mencap. Most of our staff are volunteers and everyone has to muck in and be prepared to do whatever needs doing!
We recommend you come and visit for an informal cuppa before you apply as the environment doesn’t suit everyone.
If you would like the job description and an application form or even just an informal chat please contact Anna Reeves on 07872 627301.
DBS and references required. Experience off working with people with learning disabilities and qualifications preferred but not essential.
