Job description
We are looking for an experienced and organised care assistant to join our team here at Wellfield House Care Home on an 12 hour a week contract 8-2pm shifts. Your rota will require you to work alternate weekend shifts.
Brief Job Description:
To assist in the care of all residents, subject to Company policies and agreed procedures and to participate in the provision of a high standard of care. Ensuring the principles of care are adhered to.
Principle responsibilities

- refer all enquiries to the person in charge
- be aware of own limitations, i.e. seek help as necessary

· Care – Functions
To work with the caring team, provide assistance as directed by the home Manager in charge with the following tasks.
- simple bed making
- help to serve meals and prepare and serve beverages under the direction of the person in charge. Set tables and trays, serve meals, feed residents who need help, prepare light meals, tidy and clear the dining room
- feed those residents who need assistance as directed by the person in charge
- weigh mobile residents
- assist person in charge with bathing of residents
- assist in the care of incontinent residents
- assist residents with toileting, e.g. sani-chair or commode
- report to person in charge abnormalities observed in urine, faeces and sputum and save specimens for her to observe.
- give and remove bedpans and urinals
- assist residents with dressing and undressing
- assist with care of hair, oral care, pressure areas and nails as requested
- provide washing facilities for residents after using toilet facilities and before meals
- assist the person in charge to carry out last offices if required
- assist the person in charge to admit and discharge residents with due regard and to relevant procedures such as that relating to property and valuable etc.
- on discharge of the resident, clean the bed and make ready for future use
- maintain tidiness and cleanliness in all rooms, e.g. sluice, resident rooms, communal areas, etc.
- be aware of hazards in working environment to residents and staff and follow procedures on the same, e.g. fire, health and safety, etc.
- report any accidents to residents or staff to person in charge according to agreed procedure
- report any breakages or equipment requiring repair to person in charge
- observe and report to person in charge any changes in the condition or behaviour of the residents
- report to person in charge any complaints from residents or relatives
- answer call bells, the door and telephone and greet visitors in a polite, friendly and professional manner
- help to care for the needs of the dying
- assist in the promotion of the physical, educational and psychological well being of all residents
- provide activity and stimulation of residents in accordance with the Activities Programme
- undertake such other duties as may be required.
N.B. In nursing home settings in conjunction with the matron/manager or the person in charge and after appropriate training, identified Care Assistants may undertake professional duties, e.g. taking and recording of temperature, pulse and blood pressure, testing urine and recording of results.
