Job description
An ASL paraprofessional provides one-on-one support during the school day to accommodate an auditory and visual learning environment for a deafblind student. American Sign Language (ASL) is a major requirement for this position, as it is often how students communicate. A candidate must have communicative competency including fluency, vocabulary, grammar, comprehension, etc. in American Sign Language. Applicants will be asked to send an ASL video to test for fluency to determine placement.

Schedule:
The ASL Paraprofessional will work the duration of the school year one-on-one with a student during their school day. This job will be Monday - Friday from around 7am - 4pm. Employment over the summer may be available. The employee will follow the breaks of their student’s school calendar.

Job Requirements:
- REQUIRED: Fluent in American Sign Language (ASL)
- Preferred: Intervener Certification
- Ability to use simultaneous communication (SIM-COM)
- Feels comfortable working in close physical proximity to students while frequently using touch to communicate with and instruct students who are primarily tactile learners
- Able to communicate information gained through hearing and vision
- Feels comfortable working with students with moderate to severe disabilities
- Demonstrates frustration tolerance, emotional maturity, stability, and ability to perform under stress
- Willing to be flexible in regard to work assignment
- Shows ability to exercise good judgment, cooperation, tact, and discretion in dealing with the student, family, and others
- Shows interest in developing additional knowledge and skills
- Follows team decisions, established policies and procedures, and designated lines of communication and authority
- Punctuality and reliability
- Willingness to learn new skills and obtain certification
- Must be prepared and comfortable working with students with moderate to severe aggression
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $25.00 - $27.00 per hour
