About the Role

Walton Medical Centre has an exciting opportunity for a paramedic to join our practice. This role can be offered on a full-time or part-time basis, with flexibility on days and hours. The main responsibilities of the role include:

  • Diagnosing and treating patients presenting with acute medical and minor illness or requesting home visits.
  • Delivering news to patients/parents/carers and provide appropriate ongoing support to meet identified needs.
  • Ensuring clinical practice is safe and effective and remains within boundaries of competence and to acknowledge limitations.
  • Advising patients on general health care and minor ailments with referral to other members of the primary and secondary health care team as necessary.
  • Providing assessment, screening treatment services and health education advice.
  • Providing general and specific health screenings to the practice patients (within agreed protocols) with referral to other members of the primary and secondary health care team as necessary.
  • Undertaking the collection of pathological specimens including intravenous blood samples, swabs, etc, as required.
  • Participating in the administrative and professional responsibilities of the practice team.
The role will offer you the opportunity to build on your experience of working effectively within a multi-disciplinary, healthcare team, as you will work alongside fellow professionals within the practice in support of one another.

About the Candidate

If you are an experienced emergency care practitioner (ECP)/paramedic wanting a new challenge, we would love to hear from you. You will have the following skills and experience:
  • A registered nurse or paramedic, with current HCPC or NMC registration and post-registration experience, ideally with some being in primary care;
  • Completed a Level 7 qualification in Clinical Assessment
  • Able to effectively assess, plan, treat and refer patients;
  • Able to evaluate patient care confidently;
  • Working to protocols and guidelines;
  • Excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills;
  • The ability to make clear decisions with confidence and communicate these effectively;
  • Understanding of the need to work within the parameters of one's own training and capability, according to the NMC Code of Conduct / Health and Care Professions Council;
  • Autonomous practice working and multi-professional team working;
  • Able to demonstrate a broad and sound knowledge of complex and common conditions in primary care in both adults and children.

About Us

Walton Medical Practice is situated in the traditional seaside resort of Walton on the Naze, on the Essex coast with a list size of just over 8,300 patients. As well as 2 GP Partners and a salaried GP, the practice team includes a clinical pharmacy team of 2, a nursing team of 10 and an efficient and effective reception and administrative team of 18.

Walton Medical Practice is part of The Colte Partnership which was formed in June 2017 - it is made up of 9 local practices across Colchester and Tendring caring for approx. 95,000 patients. We also work as three collaborative Primary Care Networks (PCN’s) which span across Colchester and Tendring:

  • Ambrose Avenue Group Practice, Riverside Medical Centre & Ardleigh Surgery
  • Mersea Island Medical Practice, Tiptree Medical Centre & Rowhedge Medical Centre
  • Walton Medical Centre, Colne Medical Centre & Wivenhoe Medical Centre

There is a wide socio-economic and demographic served within this area which will provide an interesting and varied case mix. You will be joining an enthusiastic team of clinicians and administrators. You will be well supported with on-going professional development (training support, CPD and peer support). The role will contribute to the improving quality of care of our patients across the network of practices.
