Job description
Edwards Duthie Shamash are currently hiring for a paralegal in our Parliamentary, Electoral and Media Law team based at Waterloo.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who has an interest in politics and a legal background, working in a specialist team that has considerable experience in the political sector (and has served as the Labour Party’s external solicitors since 1990).
We represent MPs and other politicians in defamation claims, privacy matters, judicial review and other civil disputes, and those facing standards tribunals for allegations of misconduct. We advise candidates on compliance with electoral and regulatory law and we represent the Labour Party in election court disputes.
Our team is growing and we also currently act for a considerable number of high-profile individuals in phone hacking claims against the publishers of newspapers.
You will need a law degree or equivalent (such as Graduate Diploma in Law), but also some understanding of politics. You will have excellent IT skills and attention to detail and be prepared to work under pressure on high-profile work.
You will, alongside one other paralegal, provide support to four solicitors in the team and ideally you will have the LPC, or have embarked on the new SQE route to qualification. Knowledge and understanding of the world of government and politics is highly desirable. It is the firm’s practice that at the end of your first year you would be considered for a training contract as a solicitor.
If you or someone you know would be interested in applying for this role, please contact us at [email protected].
