Job Overview
The Mental Health team at Reeds Solicitors are looking for a paralegal to support Solicitors within the Midlands and East areas. The successful candidate can be based in any of the locations stated above, as long as they are willing and able to attend the Company’s office premises in one of those locations on a hybrid basis.
There is the opportunity for this position to develop into a traineeship in due course if the candidate is looking for progression.
We are looking to expand so that we can continue to represent those in most need and provide advice and representation on all aspects of Mental Health Law.
We are looking for a keen and hardworking paralegal, who is interested in Mental Health work. No previous Mental Health or paralegal experience is needed, but we do need someone who will be confident getting stuck in from the outset. The role will involve meeting and advising clients, reviewing evidence, liaising with other professionals, and attending various meetings.. If you have any personal or professional experience supporting people with mental health diagnoses, learning disabilities, autism, or dementia then we’d be particularly interested to hear from you.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Assist all advocates throughout all stages of case preparation.
- Administratively assisting in the management of cases under the supervision of Solicitors and Trainees, including drafting letters to clients, the Tribunal and third parties, taking clients instructions, preparing statements, applications, written representations, and other legal documents.
- Accurately time record for all work carried out on the case management system.
- Ensuring standards of files are met in accordance with the Office Manual, Lexcel standards and other regulatory bodies.
- Liaising with other professionals and communicating with our clients, to include attendance at court hearings as well as advocate & round table meetings.
- Provide the highest level of customer service.
- Undertake legal research and instruct experts when required.
- Assisting other caseworkers within the team with casework when required.
- Preparing Legal Aid Applications.
- Assisting with diary management.
- Confirming Tribunal dates with clients.
- Ensuring reports are sent to clients and their instructions taken on same where they are so able to provide.
- Accept telephone calls coming into the Mental Health Team.
- Any other duties as directed by the Team Leader or a member of the Management Team.
Person Specification
- Good communicator in both written and spoken English.
- Willing to undertake further external training and development such as the Law Society’s Mental Health Accreditation Scheme, with the support of the company.
- Good understanding of client care requirements.
- Must be IT literate and be willing to learn.
- Must be proactive in seeking to assist fee earners.
- Consistent attention to detail.
- Excellent time management and organisation skills.
- Good teamwork ethics.
- Must be able to work well under pressure.
- Be proactive and able to work well without supervision.
- Must have a full UK driving license.
