Job description
An opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal to join our Clinical Negligence department at our London office.
The Clinical Negligence department represents claimants and their families following poor medical treatment.
The Role
The role will primarily involve working on new and potential instructions and duties will include:
- Taking initial enquiries from prospective claimants via the telephone
- Providing detailed accounts of the enquiries to Partners; highlighting anything that they feel may be pertinent to the claim
- Interviewing clients and preparing statements
- Updating clients as to progress of their claims
- Drafting initial letters of advice or advising why we are unable to proceed with the matter
- Reviewing medical records and potentially preparing bundles of medical records including indexing the records
- Liaising with experts and clients to arrange conferences
- Assisting solicitors within the group in all procedures, including instructing counsel and issuing and pursuing court proceedings.
- Preparing complaints to medical organisation and considering responses to complaints.
- Attending court and conferences with counsel
The successful individual will have exceptional telephone skills and an empathetic approach with clients, as a large part of the day will be spent liaising with them via the telephone. They will be astute and be able to highlight any significant points of interest to their supervisor. The ability to instill confidence in both external and internal clients is paramount.
This role would ideally suit candidates who have a law degree, LPC graduate, or similar but we are also willing to consider candidates who have medical knowledge and a strong administrative background.
An understanding of the litigation process is desirable but not essential.
