Job summary
CPS South East area delighted to advertise the role of Paralegal Business Manager. This is an exciting opportunity which is open to applications across the civil service.
Please note, the following is considered desirable experience for this role:
- Knowledge of the Criminal Justice System.
Please note, there are 5 posts available which can be based at either Brighton, Canterbury or Guildford. Travel between all three offices across the area will be required when there is a business need to do so. The post breakdown is noted below, candidates will be asked to confirm their preference of post/unit on their application and offers will be made in merit order in line with this preference and location preference. Please note, although we will make every effort to accommodate your preference this cannot be guaranteed.

Job description
To ensure the efficient and effective operation of casework handling and performance management systems within the Unit in accordance with guidance provided managers. Responsible for all the casework and administrative functions and management of Paralegal staff within the team.
To provide leadership in all aspects of Area/Division/Unit/Group performance and management, including the implementation of major change initiatives.
To take a pivotal role within the local community and with Criminal Justice System (CJS) partners in order to drive through strategic change and improvements within the Unit and to meet the needs of the Service, key stakeholders and the national framework.
Person specification
Translates national/Area/Division/Unit/Group plans and initiatives into key targets and programmes with regular reviews
To operate efficient and effective casework handling systems within the Area/Division/Unit/Group in accordance with guidance provided by senior manager/prosecutors. Ensure compliance with Area/Division/Unit/Group systems and processes.
Management of the CPS case tracking system and utilising available case management reports.
Monitor, evaluate, and report upon the progress in delivery of performance targets and objectives relating to Court casework/file management. Refine systems when necessary to ensure resources are maximised and quality improved. To quality assure the accuracy and reliability of performance information.
To assist managers in developing an HR strategy for the Area/Division/Unit/Group, which aligns its aims and objectives with the business and with the development needs of its people. To assist managers in implementing the strategy by setting appropriate targets and ensuring regular review.
Conduct Performance and Development Reviews (PDRs) and in year reviews for all direct reports.

The recruitment process will consist of an Online application & Video interview which will be held on Monday 24th April 2023 via Microsoft Teams

The successful applicant will be required to secure DBS clearance; to speed up this process; you should bring 3 forms of ID with you on the day of interview. Data gathered from unsuccessful candidates will be destroyed in accordance with our Data Retention Policy.
If successful in obtaining an interview you will be asked to complete the Character Enquiry Form and Nationality and Immigration Questionnaire.
If you are an internal member of staff, you will not be required to undergo this DBS check as you will already hold this clearance
Personal Statement (using the text box provided online)
You will also be asked to complete a personal statement of no more than 1250 words setting out how you consider your personal skills, qualities and experience, match the requirements as detailed in the Candidate Pack. Other
This is a full-time post. However, requests for flexible, part-time working and job share will be considered, considering at all times the operational needs of the Department.
Waiting List
Candidates who are recommended by the selection panel but not appointed to the current vacancy will be placed on a waiting list for 12 months and may be offered another post, should any further vacancies for a Paralegal Business Manager arise in CPS South East during this period. CPS may also approach candidates on the waiting list to fill other CPS South East roles requiring similar knowledge and experience.
