About your new role

The role

We are looking to recruit an paralegal to join the Aviation & Travel and Tourism team. This forms part of the Specialty team, which deals with a broad range of insurance litigation. This is an excellent opportunity for a talented person to experience a wide range of both international and domestic work, predominantly contentious in nature, and to have significant responsibility and opportunity to develop with performance.

Main duties and responsibilities

  • Assisting partners and lawyers with their caseloads.
  • Dealing with claims arising from personal injury, property damage and public liability both domestically and internationally, particularly arising from the Package Travel and Linked Travel Arrangements Regulations 2018.
  • Responsible for effective administration and coordination of high volumes of small claims.
  • Drafting basic correspondence and preparing court and other documentation
  • Liaising by phone and e-mail with client contacts and third parties.
  • Preparing instructions to experts/counsel and paper/electronic bundles of documents.
  • Co-ordinating meetings, events and seminars, in close co-operation with fee-earners.
  • Attending meetings and preparing attendance notes.
  • Legal research.
  • Ensuring compliance with deadlines, client service level agreements, relevant policies and procedures.
  • Completion of management information.
  • Carrying out conflict checks and opening new matters on the system.
  • Deal with confidential, sensitive and restricted internal and client matters.
  • Ad hoc support to campaign and marketing activities
  • Provide assistance with billing (including sending invoices to clients) and debt recovery
  • Effective liaison with support staff to manage workloads efficiently
  • Assisting with other work allocated by the Team Manager
  • Work in accordance with Weightmans’ values

About You

The person specification

  • Experience of litigation is desirable
  • Experience of travel related claims and/or personal injury or a demonstrated interest is desirable
  • Outgoing, professional and confident with a positive attitude
  • Maintain a high level of accuracy
  • Fully understands the importance of confidentiality, both internally and externally
  • A self-starter with a strong sense of loyalty to the team and professional pride in your work product
  • Any additional language skills are an asset
  • Fluency in English
  • Flexible, pro-active and works well under pressure
  • Excellent organisation and time-management skills
  • Excellent IT skills
  • Good teamwork skills
  • Training on the job will be provided, where appropriate
