Job description

Who we are:

At TrueLayer, we're building a global open banking platform that's changing how money moves and so much more. We make payments and refunds instant, account data accessible and verification seamless — all so innovators in every industry can build better financial experiences for their users.

To date, we've raised $270 million from world-renowned investors including Stripe, Tiger Global, Addition and Tencent. We've got offices in London, Milan and Dublin. And we're trusted by industry leaders like Revolut, Coinbase and Nutmeg… though we're not stopping here.

Our vision is a financial system that works for everyone. To make that happen, we're creating original and innovative products that will remove the friction from finance for good. We're seriously scaling our infrastructure, we're entering new areas all the time, we're cornering a whole new category — and we'd like your support to get us there.

Description

We are looking for a self-starting and ambitious paralegal to assist the Legal Team in delivering quality advice to its stakeholders throughout the business. You will provide support to all lawyers in the team as well as take responsibility for specific tasks and processes, such as contract negotiation, research and ad hoc queries.

You should be open and curious, with a real desire to learn on the job. You will need to be accountable, show initiative, and be a great communicator with internal and external stakeholders.

You will be joining TrueLayer at a very exciting time. You will work on new products and support us to enter new markets. In return, we will provide you with significant opportunities for personal and professional development in a fun and inclusive environment.

What we expect from you as a Paralegal:

  • Reporting into a Senior Lawyer, you will be trusted to take ownership of your work in a collaborative atmosphere and expected to 'learn by doing'
  • You will provide pragmatic and accurate legal support both internally within the Legal Team and across our business, including commercial, product, HR, brand and marketing as required
  • You will prepare and negotiate commercial contracts including customer agreements, NDAs, licensing agreements, IT service agreements, data processing / sharing agreements
  • You will be responsible for reviewing incoming ad hoc queries on the Legal Jira board, providing a response yourself or allocating to a member of the Legal Team accordingly
  • You will be given opportunities to broaden your expertise through learning and drafting advice on product and regulatory issues
  • You will own and develop processes to enhance the team's efficiency, such as maintaining templates and document management procedures

About you:

  • Trusted: you build trust by demonstrating the highest standards of performance, you show meticulous Appropriate paralegal qualifications, such as: (i) a law degree (or equivalent); (ii) NALP Paralegal practice award, certificate, diploma; (iii) postgraduate paralegal diploma; (iv) an award in legal studies; or (v) legal secretary certificate or diploma
  • 2+ years experience working in a legal environment, either at a law firm or in-house, exceptional candidates with less experience will also be considered
  • A basic understanding of the FinTech sector, with an interest in payments
  • Results-oriented: you show initiative, you care about the bigger picture, you focus on outcomes and get stuff done, you work on what matters and delegate or automate the rest;
  • Risk aware: you are comfortable starting to take risk-based decisions, you think about our customers and our reputation not just the rules and regulations, you are comfortable working in grey areas and you have solid ethics to lean on during those times;
  • Agile: you don't stay in your lane, you appreciate working on new things and stepping out of your comfort zone;
  • Team First: you guide the team by example, you are humble about your role in the business, you see your job as supporting the company to move forward quickly and safely;
  • Future thinking: you are enthusiastic about being part of a growing team and contributing to the culture during growth, you take responsibility for your own professional development and continuous learning;
  • Caring: you build trusting relationships with colleagues, you create an environment where people challenge each other safely, you give, and are open to, frequent, timely, specific and actionable feedback;
  • Accountable: you are a confident decision-maker, you follow clear escalation routes within your team, you don't hide behind legal jargon;
  • attention to detail, sound judgement, and efficient subject matter expertise in legal and regulatory issues.

Don't meet all the requirements?

Multiple studies have shown that women and people of underrepresented groups are sometimes less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single requirement. At Truelayer, we are committed to building a diverse workforce, so if you are excited about this role and have the essential skills, but not the entire checklist - we'd still love to hear from you!
