Paralegal
Location: London on a hybrid basis – Typically 60% in the office
Job type: Permanent
Job Purpose
Supporting RICS’ central legal team in the effective delivery of high-quality, responsive, solution focused and commercially minded legal advice across a full range of legal issues globally.
This will provide an excellent opportunity to develop and progress within an experienced and supportive in-house legal team.
Key Responsibilities
- Supporting the team in managing workload, instructions and priorities by actively managing and triaging the legal inbox, diarising key dates, and keeping trackers and pipelines up to date
- Supporting the development of a legal intranet site, its content, and maintaining the site to ensure it remains up to date and a ‘go to’ resource for the business
- Managing the expansion of RICS’ contract database to become a corporate record of all agreements with third parties, review materials provided as part of a recent contract amnesty and ensure that final signed copies of all agreements are uploaded to the central record
- Assisting the team in developing legal process with the aim of streamlining and making legal support more accessible and responsive
- Assisting with the protection of RICS’ large global trademark portfolio, including issuing cease and desist correspondence
- Conducting legal research on a wide range of legal issues, drafting summaries and providing advice
- Assisting with the management of RICS’ legal services panel
- Working with the Finance team to ensure purchase orders are raised and invoices for external legal advisors are processed in a timely manner
- Working with procurement to ensure new legal suppliers are set up appropriately
- With support where required, responding to legal queries, drafting, reviewing and negotiating contracts and conducting a range of contentious matters
- Staying abreast of relevant legal developments, updating the team on the same and drafting content of interest for colleagues and members
- Assisting the Privacy team on data privacy matters as and when required
Experience / Skills Required
- Undergraduate degree educated
- An understanding and appreciation of the law either through education or previous experience
- Strong oral and written communications skills
- Proactive, problem-solving attitude
- Previous experience of working in an in-house legal function or law firm desirable but not essential
