Mississauga Community Legal Services (MCLS) is a community legal clinic funded by Legal Aid Ontario. We provide legal advice and representation to low-income residents of the City of Mississauga in various areas of law including Social Assistance, Tenants Rights, Immigration, Employment, and Canada Pension Plan-Disability. We are also committed to utilizing community development strategies to improve the lives of the people we serve.
We are searching to fill Permanent and Contract Full-time vacancies. The ideal candidate is licensed as a paralegal by the Law Society of Ontario. They will have at least 3-5 years of legal experience representing clients at the representation of clients in various Tribunals. The candidate will provide legal services in more than one area of clinic practice depending on the needs of the clinic. These services include intake, summary advice, brief services in addition to providing Public Legal Education and Community Development Initiatives.
The individual should have working experience with one or more of the clinic’s areas of practice including Income Maintenance, Housing and Immigration. They must have experience working with disadvantaged communities and have demonstrated a commitment to the delivery of high quality legal services to low income individuals and groups.
To be successful in the role you will have excellent time and file management skills with the ability to work with restrictive deadlines and unpredictable priority changes causing time pressures. We are looking for an individual with strong interpersonal and legal skills including research and analysis, negotiation, public speaking, and advocacy. The ability to speak a second language is an asset.
Salary will be in the range of $70,030 to $83,693, commensurate with level of experience along with a comprehensive health and dental benefits, four weeks of vacation and a defined pension plan.
