Job description
We are offering a rare opportunity for a doctor with an interest in palliative care to join our Consultant led Specialist Palliative Care service.
The available job is flexible for the right candidate, from one day a week to full time. This post offers an opportunity for doctors wishing to have further experience in palliative and end of life care, from a GP wishing to develop a special interest in Palliative Care, a trust grade/IMT doctor aiming to gain further experience prior to specialising, or an experienced palliative care doctor.
You will work alongside a multidisciplinary team of Doctors, Clinical Leads, Nurse Practitioner, Nurses, Senior/Health Care Assistants, Occupational Therapist, Physiotherapist, Counsellors, Complementary Therapists and a Spiritual Support Team in order to deliver our comprehensive range of services through a holistic approach.
You will provide medical care for a variety of inpatient beds (18 in total), including symptom control and end of life care. You will have the opportunity to participate in research/audit projects, an option to create and present teaching to junior doctors and nursing staff, and develop your own knowledge through the strong team setting. On-call duties at Alice House are non-resident. For weekend on-calls, a daily visit would be required. There may be opportunities for additional ad hoc non-resident on-calls.
If you are a GP wishing to gain more interest in Palliative Care, you will work alongside experienced doctors, including a Consultant in Palliative Medicine, to develop specialist palliative care knowledge and skills that would be invaluable in primary care. The Consultant is employed by North Tees & Hartlepool NHS Trust and works at the Hospice 4 sessions per week, supported by two Staff Grade Doctors, a Foundation Year 2 Doctor rotating on a four-monthly basis and the placement of a Specialist Registrar in Palliative Medicine. For the right candidate, the Hospice will support any relevant Continuous Professional Development in order to aid career progression.
Doctors who have previously worked in the NHS can still contribute to the NHS Pension Scheme as long as it is within 12 months after leaving the NHS.
Revalidation will also be provided through the Hospice’s working partnership with the local NHS Foundation Trust.
Alice House prides itself on its wonderful team of clinical and non-clinical staff, who work together to provide empathetic, individualised, high quality, patient centered care; the role each member of the team plays has a positive impact for our patients and their families. Alice House is a loved and well supported charity in Hartlepool and the surrounding areas, and we are proud to support our local community.
