Your New Role
We have a fantastic opportunity for a permanent, on-site Painter/ Rigger to join our Severn Bridges account in Bristol.
Amey is working in partnership with National Highways on the Specialist Bridges Inspection & Maintenance contract to inspect and maintain three bridges in Southwest England over a 15-year period.
Covering the maintenance of three major structures; the 1.4km M5 Avonmouth Bridge, the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge which comprises three structures, the 2.1km Avon Viaduct, 948m Cable Stay and 2.077km Gwent Viaduct as well as the 1.6km M48 Severn Bridge, a suspension bridge that has the second highest tidal range in the world at 14.5m. We are responsible for the cyclic maintenance, daily structure inspection checks and safety patrols as well as responding to any incidents that impact the structural integrity of the bridges.
Our roads and bridges are among the safest in the world and our partnership supports maintenance to high standards across all three bridges and provides the best possible quality of service to road users.
The Painter/Rigger roles plays an important part carrying out maintenance and repair works on the iconic M48 Severn Bridge, M4 Prince of Wales Bridge and M5 Avonmouth Bridge.
The standard hours of work are 37.5 hrs per week, specific shift pattern to be discussed at interview stage.

You will be responsible for:
- Carrying out tasks allocated by the General Foreman and Construction Manager in accordance with the procedures specified and detailed in the Daily Awareness Briefing
- Driving access plant such as gantries, MEWPs and Rapid Access Train in line with training received
- Assisting with the cleaning, surface preparation and painting of steel surfaces to specified standards
- Supporting with the assembly of temporary and permanent access platforms, the rigging of powered access platforms and the erecting and checking of access scaffolds
- Running repairs to the carriageway surfacing and waterproofing
- Maintenance of other structural elements e.g., movement joints and assist other members of the maintenance and electrical team as required
- Ensuring that safe methods of working are employed by at all times and that the equipment, plant or machinery used is functioning safely and normally
- Undertaking out of hours emergency response as part of an on-call rota as required
We want to hear from you if you have: experience of working in an engineering environment with knowledge of industrial blasting and painting and general maintenance activities. Due to the nature of the role, it is essential for you to be able and willing to work outdoors and at height.
Ideally you will be qualified in ICATS, CSCS Industrial Painter, NVQ Level 2 Industrial Painting and IOSH Working Safely with experience in working in a maintenance/ construction environment.
In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have IRATA Level 1 Rope Access competence to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
