This is an exciting opportunity to join the newly formed infant feeding team in North Yorkshire. If you are passionate, forward thinking and motivated to provide the best support possible to families we would love to hear from you.

The role will have a focus on providing families with infant and toddler nutrition advice and breastfeeding support in order to provide the very best start in life. This new role will also centre around providing emotional support to families to ensure positive emotional health.

Training and supervision will be provided to enable you to develop your skills and ensure a high standard of information and support is provided to children and their families in a range of settings.

To support mother's, children/young people and their families with low-level issues around infant feeding, managing emotional health or general areas of concern.

We are the largest provider of children's public health nursing services. These services stretch from North Yorkshire up to Gateshead and Sunderland. We are dedicated to working towards improved public health outcomes for children and families in the footprint, delivering high-quality universal and targeted health visiting and school nursing services to meet the key improvement priorities for the population.

The main responsibilities of the post includes:
Ensure timely contact with mothers, children/young people and families in order to offer information and support.

Ensure mothers, families and children/young people are provided with contact details of local support groups.

Actively support the planning of support sessions in groups.

Work within recognised best practice standards, UNICEF baby friendly initiative, the International Code of Marketing of Breast milk Substitutes and Nice guidance.

Ensure appropriate referral for clinical support when required to an infant feeding coordinator, health visitor, emotional resilience nurse or GP.

Meet with Line manager on a regular basis for supervision, every 4 to 6 weeks, and to report progress.

Deal in a courteous and sensitive manner with families, children/young people and others with who they come into contact with.

Communicate effectively with families and children/young people and others, considering clinical conditions and differing levels of ability.

Always maintain confidentiality.

Establish working relationship with all groups of staff ensuring maintenance of good communication.

Ensure accurate completion of records and entering of data onto required systems.

Support the healthy child team in other activities that may benefit our clients e.g. community events and public meetings.

To participate in personal development plans under supervision process with the Line manager.

To attend training and audit sessions in order to ensure continued learning and delivery of evidence-based best practice.

To demonstrate compression, empathy and sensitivity to clients who may have emotional and physical conditions and social concerns.

Promote the needs of children with send, young people with send and their families in the development of community child health services.

Promote the needs of children, young people and families with the GRT community in the development of community child health services.

Deliver a place–based approach with key delivery partners to support the needs of children, young people and families alongside building community resilience. Supported by the community anchor, practitioners will work within the community to build capacity and increased resilience utilising an asset based approach. Practitioners will need to work in collaboration with KDPs and the voluntary and community sector to map and align services to meet population need, whilst developing innovative ways of working.

To perform tasks which require the use and transportation of equipment, training materials.

May be exposed to lone working conditions in a variety of settings.

To travel to community settings using the most appropriate form of transport.

To be able to respond to inconsistent work patterns, manage time effectively and read prioritise as required on a daily basis.

Keep accurate and contemporaneous records in accordance with agreed policy.

Collect and prepare statistical information is required.

Accurate records of visits and expenses incurred must be maintained.

Maintain effective communication with all disciplines and health and welfare agencies, statutory and voluntary and institutions.

We will accept appropriate referrals for advice from all voluntary and statutory agencies, together with self-referral from clients and community groups.

Will contribute to the monthly audit of records which is submitted to the audit department to assist in maintaining standards for records and record keeping, in response to local and national standards, NMC guidelines and National Service Frameworks.

Will participate in clinical supervision groups and the audit which is ongoing throughout the service to maintain clinical effectiveness and continual professional development.

Share information and adhere to safeguarding procedures in order to safeguard children and young people.

Apply motivational theories to staff education and training to support them to enable families to make healthy choices and lifestyle changes, both on an individual and group basis.

Report through line management any grievance or complaint.
