This is an exciting opportunity for someone who wishes to develop their career as a Speech and Language Therapy Assistant working with children, within a small and supportive team. We are looking for a self- motivated, friendly and enthusiastic candidate to join our established Children’s Therapy Team in North Lincolnshire.

The candidate should be dynamic and enthusiastic individual who is keen to work with and support children with communication difficulties within the area of Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy. The candidate would need to be able to demonstrate skills in working with children, carer’s and other agencies. Experience working with children with disabilities and in particular those with communication difficulties would be desirable. This post would be an exciting opportunity for someone who has been working with children in community or education settings and is looking to develop their specialist skills in Paediatric Speech and Language Therapy.
1. To undertake specific, skilled support work with children to support speech and language development.
2. To accept patients referred by a Therapist and carry your own patient caseload. Treat patients according to set treatment protocols, monitoring patient progression, reviewing and making minor alterations to treatment programmes as required within scope of practice.
3. Work without direct supervision, reporting back patient progress and informing the Therapist of any problems.
4. To carry out therapy programmes as set out by a speech & language therapist, working in partnership with the child / young person, their family and other staff.
5. To participate in service and departmental initiatives to develop and enhance the service for children and young people.

We are looking for applicants who having the following:

  • Relevant experience of working with children
  • Experience with working with families
  • Previous experience working with children who have additional needs and/or vulnerabilities
  • An awareness of a range of Speech and Language Therapy difficulties
  • Have experience of or awareness of support strategies that may support a child with Speech, Language and Communication Difficulties (SLC)
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Ability to problem solving
  • Self motivated and can take the initiative and ability to work independently
  • Excellent interpersonal skills including observation, listening and empathy skills.

The post holder will have the opportunity to work in a range of community settings including schools, early year’s settings, clinics, Child Development Centre, and within the patient’s home. You will join a small established team of Speech and Language Therapists/ Assistant practitioners working in an integrated service with children’s Occupational Therapists, Physiotherapists and Dietetics. We are a fun, child focused team who work closely together. The team is based in New Beacon House site in Scunthorpe and working across schools in North Lincolnshire and some community clinics. Within this role there is an exciting opportunity to develop skills across a broad range of clinical areas in order to develop skills and areas of clinical interest.

Your job will be to provide Speech and Language support of children with a wide range of speech and language conditions in schools and clinics under the guidance of a registered member of the team. This will include working closely with parents and other practitioners to reduce the impact of communication difficulties. We are now currently offering an increased range of treatment and assessment options via telehealth and there is some opportunity for flexible working from home. You will be supported to develop core Band 4 competencies.
