Packaging Technologist - Packaging Design Team
Nottingham
Maternity Cover – 8 months

In this role you will own projects that aim to improve packaging execution across three workstreams; The 3 Year NPD plan, Sustainability and Margin Transformation. You will use your extensive packaging technical expertise and consumer focus to develop packaging from early concept to delivery. There will often be multiple possibilities within a project requiring you to use your commercial acumen to define and recommend the best route forward to key stakeholders.

About the role

  • Accountable for delivering the packaging on the 3YR Global Brand NPD plan. The focus being on projects that are at concept stage.
  • Accountable for delivering against the packaging sustainability targets. The focus being on projects that contribute significant steps forward.
  • Use high levels of packaging expertise to optimise specification, challenge thinking and ensure the best, most scientifically robust product design
  • All stakeholders are managed to ensure delivery on time to the correct cost and quality.
  • Accountable for quality of data and accuracy, and for the delivery of the final specifications and manufacturing documents
  • Consistently prepares presentations / written reports for defined audience following scientific and design principles.
  • Conducts all necessary due diligence and is accountable for identifying and effectively managing packaging technical risks

What you’ll need to have

  • Limit to only the essential skills and experience required to do the role.
  • Proven track record of developing packaging from design concept to market, ideally within FMCG environment
  • Excellent knowledge of key packaging technologies, print processes, artwork and origination.
  • This will include a good understanding of IP principles; when and how to protect IP and to resolve IP challenges and how to apply the principles of good Lean design i.e. identification of customer value to drive efficiency across the appropriate value chain
  • Experience of tooling new pack shapes
  • Proven ability to manage risk, priorities and overall timings for complex technical projects
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy
