Job description

Overview

It’s a great time to join Screwfix. Thanks to the hard work of our team and record-breaking sales, we’re proud to be one of the fastest-growing retailers in the UK. And we want to pass that growth onto you.

Whether you’re in procurement, digital, marketing or finance, there’s a role for you here.

We are excited to offer a fantastic opportunity for a passionate individual to join the Screwfix sustainability team. Reporting to the Sustainability Manager, you will co-ordinate the implementation of the Screwfix sustainable packaging policy and targets across our local vendor base and with Kingfisher on own-exclusive brand (OEB) products; ensuring our expected standards are met and where necessary supporting vendors to identify improvements. Establish regular reporting against our packaging goals, with analysis to highlight performance and risks. Working across the group to meet regulatory requirements, whilst looking forward and preparing for any future standards.

We believe that a hybrid, flexible working approach offers you – and your colleagues – the best of both worlds. Face-to-face collaboration is an integral part of our warm, friendly culture, so you’ll work from our head office three days a week, working flexibly around our core working hours of 10am-3pm. Beyond that, how, when and where you work is up to you. With a subsidised canteen, free parking and a comfortable, relaxed environment, we’ve worked hard to build an office you’ll want to work in. We also know that, when it comes to school pick-ups and home deliveries, it’s nice to have the flexibility to do both.

Key responsibilities

  • Drive the packaging sustainability agenda and performance against business agreed targets, meeting corporate social responsibility ambitions and regulatory requirements
  • Work with vendors to improve packaging data coverage accuracy with the aim to use and deliver any potential improvements.
  • Collaborate with category teams, Kingfisher range & sourcing teams, and supply chain teams to optimise efficiency and enable/realise packaging changes.
  • Create, manage and maintain packaging database, reporting on progress against targets and regulatory requirements e.g., EPR – illustrating both performance and risk – highlighting potential actions for stakeholder review and decision making.
  • Verify reporting and tax compliance, alongside owning relevant tax and regulatory submissions.
  • Acting as a point of expertise and guidance in the business within the sustainability team and across functions
  • Identify potential circularity changes and work with relevant teams to exploit potential circular waste streams via packaging compliance and changes
  • Work with sustainability experts, NGOs (non-government organisations) and 3rd party partners to identify best practices that Screwfix can implement.
  • Build strong relationships with wider Sustainability team, Commercial Buying teams, Quality team and Kingfisher Packaging team

Required skills & experience

  • Management experience of product packaging, ideally in a large retail business.
  • Commercial experience/knowledge beneficial
  • Data gathering, analysis and communication experience
  • A passion for sustainability
  • A team player with the ability to work cross functionally, delivering complex business wide projects
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to communicate at all management levels, in particular verbal and written communication must be clear, detailed, and accurate
  • Confident and competent in MS Office applications (e.g. Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and be comfortable presenting to large audiences
