The Opportunity

A brilliant opportunity to join a thriving Product development team focusing on sausage, pate, cooked meats and plant-based products, working closely with major retailers in the UK.

As the Packaging Manager, you will support the Head of NPD to create and work to a compelling and meaningful packaging innovation strategy, taking current & future trends within packaging to inform a pipeline of projects. Reviewing and analysing current sustainability targets for packaging to achieve set and agreed targets. Challenge current thinking to stretch our goals and place Samworth Brothers Protein at the forefront of packaging innovation. Some of the of your duties will include:

• Support the creation of and maintain an innovation and sustainability focused strategy for packaging
• Alongside Head of NPD, set stretching and challenging targets for packaging innovation to support the overall strategy with close-in and further out delivery time horizons
• Work with key external stakeholders to identify areas of potential innovation and create project plans to support bringing the innovation to market
• Develop consumer winning packaging solutions from initial concept, through consumer testing and cross-functional feasibility assessment, defining the resource needed to execute, through to handover to Bakery teams
• Using knowledge and insights gathered from industry contacts, develop packaging innovation recommendations to the business.
• Create prototypes and mock ups through to fully functioning packaging to enable consumer testing and presentations
• Maintain awareness of Market trends, consumer trends and new technologies to ensure knowledge is up to date and relevant.
• Support group sustainability and procurement with any relevant central projects
• Working closely with the NPD team to deliver creative packaging to our customers alongside our award winning innovative products.

• Relevant qualifications within packaging technologies
• Experience within packaging roles for chilled manufacturing
• Understanding of packaging equipment capabilities
• Strong knowledge and understanding of key materials i.e. flexibles, carton-board & corrugated board
• Strong knowledge of print processes and relationships with key printers
• Strong project management skills and ability to work independently and as part of a cross functional team.
• Excellent collaboration – can collaborate well to get the best from people and lead with conviction and the respect of the team and stakeholders.
• Resilience combined with emotional intelligence to build collaborative powerful relationships.
• Ability to work to and achieve against stretching targets within agreed timescales providing updates throughout the project.
• Ability to work under pressure whilst able to prioritise and drive multiple projects at once to ensure all agreed targets are achieved
• Strong commercial understanding and ability to provide directional costs to the business in a clear understandable way
