Summary:
The primary purpose of the packaging engineer is to support our sales & marketing departments to successfully close new business, maintain current customers and to actively contribute to R&D, new product development efforts.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Develop package designs for current and potential customers using Ranpak product lines based on deep understanding of customer pain points and requirements. This also entails conducting cost analysis and package testing as required.
- Assist sales representatives in the field conducting site visits at customer locations. These visits normally entail development of designs, conducting cost/efficiency studies or providing pack/machine training for the customer.
- Become the subject matter expert on Ranpak products through analysis/testing and benchmarking these against competitive materials for yield, cost, and cushioning properties. This also entails providing training to new employees and customers on Ranpak products, packaging techniques.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams in design and development of new products with emphasis on materials, packaging efficacy, cost efficiency. These may include but are not limited to structural design enhancements, paper property enhancements, coatings/additives, and development of specialized tests to assess efficacy of the idea.
- Collaborate with Chief Sustainability Officer in understanding and measuring the life cycle environmental impact of all packaging materials/solutions.
- Must be able to conduct drop & vibration tests.
- Must adhere to all safety rules when working in the lab at all times.
- Other job related duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of experience in protective packaging including package design and testing.
- BS Degree in Packaging Engineering or Packaging Science.
- Strong analytical skills with ability to break down complex ideas and communicate clearly (verbal and written)
- Embrace dynamic, fast changing environment with ability to wear multiple hats and work independently with limited supervision.
- Creative, curious problem solver with a can-do attitude and passion for sustainability.
- Team player with good interpersonal skills - maturity, poise, and tact.
- Willing to travel up to 30% of the time.
- There are certifications required to perform the duties of this job either a CPP and/or a CPLP.
