Job description
The hepatology department at UHL consists of 5 consultants (including this post) and a CNS. All posts involve most aspects of general hepatology. There are close working relationships with infectious diseases in relation to the viral hepatitis clinics with UHL being the hub for the local hepatitis C treatment network which includes Kettering and Northampton General Hospitals. There is currently a very successful outreach program that has ensured the network is one of the highest treating MDTs in the country. Locally there is a large population of patients with Hepatitis B that are undergoing treatment and follow up.
There are close links with the transplant unit at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham, with one of the consultants providing outpatient clinics there. Within UHL there is close working with interventional radiology for TIPSS and transjugular liver biopsies. TACE is also performed in conjunction with the oncologists
There are also experienced histopathologists with an interest in Hepatology that provide expert assessment of our biopsies. This includes a Liver Histology Meeting every 2 months. Fibroscan is available on the LRI site in clinic and on request. We would anticipate the successful candidate being trained to use this if they are not already trained.
