The Packaging Manager will lead the packaging department in reaching high performance, meeting the corporate objective and fostering an environment of collaboration and teamwork. Manage, plan and oversee packaging of pharmaceutical products in accordance with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), customer specifications, and CPL’s operational objectives (safety, quality, on-time order delivery, waste reduction, efficiency and continuous improvement). This is a full-time on-site position.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversees and actively leads operation of the Packaging department, including filling and packaging of pharmaceutical products. Escalates issues and provides viable solutions in a timely manner.- Ensures packaging operation meets or exceeds regulatory requirements (i.e. cGMP, Health & Safety, Environmental), including documentation, processes, equipment and housekeeping.
- Develops, delivers and sustains learning and development solutions to enhance department performance, workplace ergonomics, productivity and leadership at all levels to align with team goals and Strategic Plan.
- Provides technical leadership and support in the development of routings, process maps and procedures ensuring accuracy, sustainability, consistency and alignment with best practices.
- Provides focused improvement opportunities to reduce waste, reduce inventory, reduce lead times, improve quality and increase delivery performance.
- Tracks departmental KPI’s including safety, quality, productivity, efficiency, waste, downtime, labor costs, variances and ensure targets are met or exceeded.
- Assesses and maintains proper staffing levels and is responsible for hiring, training and development of team.
- Ensures that all regulated operations in area of responsibility are adequately described by written procedures and that all operations are conducted according to approved procedures.
- Conducts, supports and participates in audits (internal / external / customer / regulatory).
- Reviews and approves master production records, non-conformances, validation documentation and SOPs that directly impact Packaging department, as well as all corresponding change controls.
- Develops and assesses performance benchmarking, ensuring best practice and new tools are deployed in collaboration with cross functional teams.
- Supports prompt resolution of production issues, with focus on identification of root cause and corresponding CAPA’s to prevent re-occurrence.
- Provides assistance with facility tours, quotes, line trials and new product launches.
- Cultivates a Continuous Quality Improvement mindset on the packaging floor to be always audit-ready, make every packaging employee a quality conscious employee.
- Assists Technical Services in the justification of acquisition of new technology and/or equipment, also assists in the preparation of capital budgets.

QUALIFICATIONS:
- Preference will be given to candidates with a university degree in a science or technical field.
- Minimum of 5 years of related work experience in the pharmaceutical industry, with a thorough knowledge of current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) and pharmaceutical regulations; at least 3 years of experience in a leadership/managerial capacity.
- Good understanding of packaging operations and leading teams across multiple shifts.
- Previous experience in building cohesive and engaged teams, leads by example and champions team development and performance.
- Extensive exposure to Continuous Improvement principles and ability to seek and implement opportunities across the area of responsibility.
- A strategic thinker and self-starter. Ability to gain support and alignment from different levels within the organization and lay out tactical plans to be executed by packaging team.
- Ability to understand production priorities, labor utilization and operating costs.
- Familiarity with OEE concepts, previous experience in SAP and TrackWise preferred.
- Demonstrated strength in achieving targets, managing deadlines and implementing change. Ability to deal with ambiguity and manage through difficult situations.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including computer skills, with the ability to generate spreadsheets, reports and presentations.
- Strong analytical skills and ability to solve problems, both technical and people related. Good judgement and decision-making abilities.

PHYSICAL WORK DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Plant and office conditions, including work with computers. Plant presence requires use of protective equipment, such as safety glasses, lab coat and appropriate footwear, to reduce personal exposure and injury.
