Job description
We seek a part-time (50%) Coordinator for the Oxford Climate Research Network.
The Oxford Climate Research Network (OCRN, www.climate.ox.ac.uk) is a network of all climate researchers at the University of Oxford. It currently includes about 200 researchers ranging from DPhil students to postdoctoral researchers and academics working in 26 departments, schools and institutes across the University. The largest numbers are in Physics, Mathematics, Earth Sciences and Geography, and there is also increasing engagement of researchers beyond the physical sciences. The goal of the network is to raise the impact, effectiveness and profile of climate research at the University of Oxford, by acting as an internal hub as well as a coordinated point of contact and information for those beyond Oxford.
The OCRN coordinator’s role is to develop and administer initiatives which maintain, strengthen and promote the network. The main duties include organising networking events and initiatives that bring together climate researchers across the breadth of climate interests at Oxford. These include termly Steering Group meetings and network lunches, as well as the OCRN annual lecture and associated events. You will also promote research conducted by OCRN researchers via the OCRN webpage, social media accounts, and internal distribution channels, and will prepare brief termly reports of activities and successes across the network. You will seek opportunities for OCRN researchers to collaborate and help in identifying funding for such collaborative projects.
The successful candidate will have a demonstrated interest in climate research, impacts and policy and/or in science management and communication. You will have experience in planning and running events and managing finances, along with excellent administrative, organisational and communication skills. You will have (or be willing to learn) strong IT skills, and be able to work independently and proactively.
The appointment will be available part-time (18.75 hours) until 31 July 2025. This position would best suit a research facilitator or communicator with an existing part-time role supporting another network or initiative, or alternatively a researcher working in a climate-related discipline, who is looking to engage with a wide range of climate researchers and stakeholders. (With the support of your PI, the post could be held alongside an existing position, with hours per week on that position - and length of contract - adjusted accordingly). The post could also be held by somebody seeking to work part-time.
Applications are particularly welcome and encouraged from women candidates and black and minority ethnic candidates who are under-represented in posts in Oxford. SoGE is committed to equality and values diversity.
Applications for this vacancy are to be made online. You will be required to upload a CV and supporting statement as part of your application.
The closing date for applications is 12.00 noon on Friday 19 May 2023, and interviews will be held in late May 2023.
