Role Overview:

As a Support Worker with GoGet Active, you will support individuals with autism and a range of learning, behavioural, and physical and mental health challenges.

Working in the community, you will provide a high level of support, in a variety of situations, to our clients. You will deliver tailored support in a way which meets each individual’s physical, emotional, educational, and mental health needs, with an understanding of their potential to exhibit behaviours of concern.

The successful candidate will be self-motivated, well-organised and able to work both independently and as part of a team.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • To assist clients to participate in social and recreational activities, including, but not limited to, swimming, cycling, hiking and bouldering.
  • To ensure the safety of our clients at all times.
  • To treat clients as individuals with needs and desires
  • To be fully aware of, and up to date with, clients’ medical backgrounds, requirements, and proscribed medication
  • To provide a stimulating environment suited to the client’s abilities and interests
  • Be adaptable and flexible according to the client’s needs on the day
  • To assist clients with personal care tasks, such as eating and toileting.
  • To see the fun in small things, acting in a manner which is encouraging and engaging
  • To observe, monitor and record clients’ physical and emotional well-being, and promptly report any changes to GoGet management.

Requirements:

Essential

  • Clean driving license held for a minimum of two years.
  • Physical fitness - We participate in all activities alongside our clients. An enthusiasm and willingness to get involved in a variety of sporting activities, including but not limited to swimming, cycling and walking, is essential.
  • Organisational skills – Our clients and their families rely on us to arrive prepared and equipped for every session.
  • Flexibility - Our client’s activity plan can alter depending on the client’s desires, health and the weather. No two days are the same, and an adaptable approach is key to ensuring that our clients get the most out of their time with us.
  • Empathy - Our clients are the reason we are here. We respond to unusual or concerning behaviour with empathy and compassion at all times.
  • Punctuality - Our clients and their families trust us to arrive as arranged and on time. This is essential to avoid causing distress to our clients.
  • Communication skills – We rely on excellent communication with our clients’ families and carers and amongst our team in order to safeguard the people we work with. In addition, many of our clients require a flexible communication style and this is vital to building strong relationships with them.
