Job description

We are currently looking for individuals with gardening and yard maintenance experience who are interested in helping seniors maintain their yard, lawn, and gardens so they can continue to live independently at home.

Ideal for retired and semi-retired individuals with gardening experience looking to put their time towards purposeful work while helping make a difference in the lives of seniors in Ottawa and their families.

Light gardening & yard maintenance: $20 per hour, 2 hour per-visit minimum
Light weeding, potting/planting, pruning/trimming flowers/small shrubs or plants, transplanting small plants/shrubs, deadheading, light soil turnover, mulching, basic edging, seeding, light raking, basic lawn mowing/grass-cutting

Heavy gardening & yard maintenance: $24 per hour, 2 hour per-visit minimum
Heavy weeding; vigorous raking, digging or shoveling; cleaning siding; trimming/pruning larger plants; cleaning/moving patio stones; cleaning garden fountains; installing edging; heavy soil turn-over; transplanting larger shrubs/plants

SEASONAL / PART-TIME / CASUAL

Requirements:

  • Must be located in Ottawa (or Gatineau if close to the Ontario-Quebec border)
  • Skill and experience in gardening, maintaining flower beds, preparing gardens for winter, grass-cutting, raking, lawn and yard maintenance
  • Flexible availability throughout the daytime during week days
  • Strong work ethic, reliable, punctual, dependable
  • Vulnerable Sector Check (obtained within the last year or willing to obtain a new one upon a successful interview)
  • Able to provide at least two professional references
  • Asset: prior experience (personal or professional) assisting/providing care to seniors/elderly individuals
  • Asset: Valid driver's license and own vehicle
  • Asset: weekend availability
