WHO ARE WE LOOKING FOR
Contract type: Permanent
Working Pattern: Full time
Location based: Consett
Hours per week: 37.5. Monday - Friday.
Salary: £25,000 - £28,000 - Generous benefits package including company funded 1% benefit allowance, 2 wellbeing days, pension, enhanced parental leave, 28 days holiday, bank holidays.
Purpose of role:
To supervise and effectively operate the busy Laboratory. You will undertake employee training and development and ensure workloads are efficiently managed and completed to the highest standards and the quality system is adhered to.
Main Responsibilities:
To undertake and supervise the analysis of soil and water samples from a wide variety of sources in accordance with standard operating procedures.
Actively manage the day to day running of the department, ensuring the correct levels of staff are always available to ensure no disruption to sample throughput occurs.
Train junior members of the department to ensure their performance is satisfactory and cost effective.
To ensure that samples are tested for the appropriate tests using the correct methodologies and results are delivered within the desired timescale.
To undertake and ensure recording of formal training for all department staff and to promote cross training of different departments.
To ensure that responses to breakdown and emergency situations is effective and within agreed timescales.
Ensuring the upkeep and maintenance of all equipment within their department.
To ensure that all quality control, method deviations or equipment breakdowns are reported promptly to the Laboratory manager.
To prepare and participate in departmental/management meetings.
Ensure that all activities within their department are carried out safely.
The day-to-day quality management of their department ensuring that the requirements of the international accreditation standards are met.
The development of new methods and techniques and the continual improvements of existing methods and techniques.
Purchasing and management of reagents, materials, spares and consumables for the organic testing department.
Attending to deliveries and ensuring the laboratory has sufficient stock to run efficiently and that it is frequently monitored.
Which skills and experiences you will need to succeed in this role?
Qualifications Required:
HNC or Degree qualified in an appropriate discipline or a minimum of 5 years laboratory experience.
Experience Required:
Proven 3 years operational experience of laboratory work in a similar field to the laboratory.
Additional Skills Required:
Must have a comprehensive understanding of soil and water sample matrices, organic analytical techniques and interferences.
Good knowledge on day to day running of GC’s, including ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot.
Excellent organisational skills.
Ability to communicate with all levels of management.
Excellent problem solving skills.
Ability to motivate and develop staff potential.
