Position: Optometrist
Location: Seaham, County Durham
Salary: Salary up to £65k (depending on experience) + potential joining bonus up to £10k (terms apply)
Working hours: Full Time or Part Time
Experience level: You must be a GOC registered Optometrist
Specsavers in Seaham have the opportunity to expand their current clinical team for an enthusiastic optometrist. The stores ethos is based around community and loyalty, where the current directors opened the store 12 years ago, and 4 of the staff have been there just as long. This brings with it the benefits of a team that is well attuned to the community, the store and are extremely knowledgeable.
The atmosphere in store has also persuaded optometrists who were locums at the store to stay on as employees. One of the main reasons behind this is the flexibility available to them. Eric and Mark are firm believers in fairness, and understand how important finding the balance between work and life outside the testing room can be. Alongside this is a fundamental belief that a desire to develop will always be supported, one of the stores current pre-regs was supported through their fast-track Optometry course with Bradford University.

Meet the Directors
Eric and Mark have been the directors of the store since day dot, 12 years ago, after seeing success with their Peterlee store. Mark has always worked for Specsavers, having started his pre-reg with Specsavers Sunderland and then buying into Peterlee 3 years later. Eric has a vast optics background, he started as a lab tech with Boots at the age of 16, he worked hard to become a qualified DO in 1992 and has been a Specsavers director since the opening of Peterlee 22 years ago.
Seaham on the North East Coast of England offers a great deal for all ages, from walking, great mountain biking, diving, photography, art galleries, great schools and great house prices. With the great transport links this is an excellent location to live, work and have a work life balance that works for all.
This store is a part of the UK’s most trusted optical brand and has enjoyed a strong period of growth recently so as a result are looking to add and strengthen the existing team of around 19 employees. The store itself has 4 test rooms with Optometrists working to 20-25-minute test times. As you would expect the store works with the latest technology such as Nidek Fundus, Tonoref, Phoropters etc and are always looking at new technology that will help Optometrists give the best patient care.
As an Optometrist you will have the full opportunity for clinical, professional, and personal development, including, but not limited to: WOPEC accreditations, College of Optometrist Higher certificates, IP, Senior Optometrist progression and management development all sponsored by the store in order to aid your specific career and personal goals. Further to this the store are lucky enough to have a close relationship and work with the Sunderland Eye infirmary, the best in Europe, for urgent referrals. As an Optometrist you have options with regards your development both clinically and personally, its entirely up to you what you want from the role.
