We have an exciting opportunity for a technically minded individual to work in the busy Ophthalmic Imaging department in a highly repetitive role. The successful applicant will ideally have experience of working in the NHS, in particular working within an Imaging or Ophthalmic setting and must be a good team player. Training will be provided to the successful candidate.
To deliver Ophthalmic Imaging diagnostic retinal scans and fundus photographs, under the direction of Head of the Imaging service.
Performing a number of Ophthalmic Imaging tests to aid the clinical diagnosis, for example, performing follow-up high resolution 3 dimensional imaging of the retina, undertake accurate measurements for nerve fibre analysis, fundus digital photography.
For some Imaging techniques this may be working independently, however usually as part of a team with practice appropriate for statutory regulation.
Maintains clinical records in relation to activities carried out and may input data to the appropriate specialized software.
May be required to supervise, organize and allocate work and/ or train less experienced staff in own area.

Undertake follow-up Ophthalmic Imaging which includes:
Detailed retinal scanning to determine a clinical diagnosis.
High magnification stereo recording of the optic nerve head.
Provide accurate progression analysis between scans from previous patient attendance.
The post holder would be expected to problem solve basic technical issues with imaging equipment and liaise closely with theHead of Imaging serviceand Specialist Ophthalmic Photographers with regard to this work.
Layout optic nerve imaging according to magnification and stereopsis.
To follow the standard operating procedures for Imaging disciplines at all times and make suggestion for improvement to these documents.
To prepare Imaging equipment in accordance with department protocols.
To measure and monitor the accuracy and precision of Imaging investigations using appropriate quality control procedures and carry out corrective action when the quality control procedures indicate loss of detail/resolution.
To perform maintenance and calibration of Imaging equipment and updating quality control records using necessary judgment and referring any inconsistencies to Head of Imaging.
Communicate the necessary requirements for patient Imaging.
Cleaning and disinfection of Imaging equipment and work areas.
Safe disposal of patient ocular dressings when required to do so.
Operation of Imaging equipment requiring dexterity and physical effort.
To accept, unpack and store deliveries from suppliers when required.
Provide practical training in procedures within own area for new staff.
Assist with the stock control in the Imaging department. Enters details of received stock onto the appropriate database. This may include the ordering of stock and consumables.
Other duties as required by theHead ofImaging.
Imaging Database:
Training will be given for use of data Management systems as necessary.
Checking that the patient demographics are correct before entering onto the patient database equipment.
Data entry of patient details using the correct field definitions.
Using appropriate filters to record clinical conditions.
Communication with colleagues and medical staff to convey information that may include patient’s results.
Required to follow written protocols, comment and assist in development and implementation of protocols or new equipment.
Understanding and compliance with Standard Operating Procedures for the Imaging department.
Participate in audit/surveys of the Imaging department as they arise, including performance monitoring of less experienced staff.
Answer telephone enquiries and issue appointment dates if required.
To observe and adhere to local and national Health and Safety policies.
To keep the workplace and Imaging acquisition stations clean and tidy.
To maintain good work relations with all members of staff, and to promote effective teamwork.
To treat everyone associated with the Trust with courtesy and respect.
To ensure compliance with all local and national standards of work practice outlined by the Ophthalmic Imaging Association.
To maintain and promote the professional image of the Imaging service.
The post holder may be required to carry out other duties in line with the grading of the post.
