Job description

Come and work for our award-winning company in the fight against climate change

About us

GENeco is a multi-award-winning recycling and renewable energy company. We were created by Wessex Water in 2008 to help our parent company become more sustainable, and our truly ground-breaking and driven approach led to us achieving carbon neutrality and zero waste to landfill status in the first three years of operation. This remarkable progress has continued, through innovations such as our gas to grid facility, and in 2015 we were named as a Guardian Sustainable Business of the Year.

As a business we treat over 700,000 tonnes of varied waste per annum, transforming this into commercial products, renewably sourced gas and electricity powering many thousands of local homes. We are consistently setting new standards within the industry and utilising ground-breaking technology to provide the best value sustainable solutions to a diverse customer base. Whether it was the VW Beetle powered by human waste or establishing a co-located food waste and sewage sludge recycling facility, GENeco was there first.

Now we are setting out to shape the future of our business. Driven by strong values and a clear direction, we are focused on helping people achieve their ambitions in the right way.

About you

We are looking for an enthusiastic individual with excellent communication skills, who is confident engaging with colleagues and customers face to face.

Alongside the importance of communication, is your organisation and time management skills. As within this position you will have to effectively manage a variety of low to high priority situations, so it is essential you are able to self-sufficiently manage your time effectively to deliver a sound service to our and customers and run the plant efficiently.

You must be proficient in using a variety of in-house IT systems along with having a good understanding of Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel.

Any previous experience in the operation of a waste facility would be advantageous but is not essential. An understanding of health and safety requirements for working on an operational DSEAR site would also be advantageous.

About the role

You will be operating to the documents and procedures within the management system maintained in accordance with the standards to which WWE subscribes, including environmental permit, regulatory guidance, ISO45001, ISO14001, ISO9001 and Competence Management System, and ensuring that documents and procedures are followed and updated if change occurs.

  • Driving multiple pieces of plant equipment such as loading shovel and hook loader
  • Work to a shift pattern of 6:00 - 15:00 and 14:30 - 23:30 and one Saturday in four.

This is a great opportunity to work with a multi-award-winning recycling and renewable energy business, committed to offering our customers innovative, cost effective and sustainable solutions.

Examples of our previous projects include marketing the world-famous ‘Bio-Bus,’ running operational trials and developing an innovative composting process.

We offer a flexible, supportive, and inclusive place to work, as well as an impressive range of benefits including:

  • 25 days annual holiday rising to 28 with length of service, plus bank holidays
  • Opportunity to buy or sell holiday
  • Generous Pension scheme offering up to 20% combined contribution
