The Opportunity
As an Operations Technician, you will be a valued member of the station at HPC to ensure the future operations of the station run smoothly and support world leading performance. You will be responsible for the safe and reliable operations of a nuclear power plant in accordance with all licenses, regulating bodies, company business strategies and industry best practices. You will also be required to perform Emergency Scheme duties where you will receive full training for any emergency which should occur.
In addition to Operations Technicians positions, Fuel Route and Radioactive Waste Operations Technicians opportunities are available as part of this recruitment campaign. Applicants will be considered for both roles dependent on skills and experience but are advised to indicate their targeted position in their CV or covering letter.
Note: Candidates who succssfully pass CV screening will be invited to an Assessment Centre held at Cannington Court in Bridgwater on one of the following dates. Overnight accommodation can be provided if required:
- 14th - 18th August
- 29th August - 1st September
The Role
Being appointed into this position, you will be required to complete the following roles to ensure the smooth running and operations on site. These include:
Monitor plant condition, identifying & resolving sub-standard condition through work requests.
Respond to requests from the control room to investigate plant alarms and perform required operations.
Control and closely monitor plant and equipment to support the process by following procedures.
Apply conservative decision-making techniques and work effectively within a team environment.
Show a solid understanding of plant operation, design, and theory (comprehensive training will be provided).
Work as part of a team to take plant handover during Construction, Commissioning, and Operational phases.
Write processes and documents to support delivery of plant handovers and Operation.
Demonstrates detailed knowledge of operations.
Mentors and train others in specific technical areas
Reinforces attitudes and nuclear professionalism behaviours that improve performance and to achieve a safe working environment. Acknowledges the accomplishments of others and the importance of individual contributions to overall performance.
Exhibits high standards of performance on the shift as defined within Management of Operations.
Delivers Station / department business plan deliverables.
Form part of the station emergency scheme, which will include wearing breathing apparatus, firefighting, entering confined spaces and first aid.
This role will develop into a shift role with emergency team duties alongside the operational duties, as dictated by the project.
The Skills
As the next Operations Technician, you will hold the following skills and experiences to be suitable for the role:
Good competent level of IT computer literacy i.e., ability to use Word, Excel and bespoke systems.
Ability to read, use and understand technical drawings, process documentation and written technical instructions
A flexible approach to work/duties
Ability to interpret and report on plant conditions using various data points.
Able to work as part of a small team and cross functionally with other departments on day-to-day basis or within shift environment.
Able to gather technical data to create processes and written instructions
Investigate and rectify plant faults within your own area of demonstrated competence
Carry out minor maintenance and health physics monitoring as required by the process
As a minimum, entrants will be educated to GCSE/National Qualifications standards (or equivalent).
Candidates with previous power generation, process engineering or senior authorised persons roles will have an advantage.

We’re offering a competitive salary, with terms and conditions covered by the Nuclear New Build Company Agreement. The starting salary for the appointment will be dependent on your competence, experiences, and qualifications. You will receive 28 days annual holiday plus bank holidays, competency-based progression and a Company pension scheme. This will also include a competitive shift allowance once shift working commences.
