Job description
As Commercial Category Manager, you will be responsible for supporting the continuing development of the category approach, working in a small category team and reporting to the Senior Commercial Category Manager.
This role provides DVSA with an exemplar commercial experience in line with Government Commercial Function (GCF) best practice, by supporting the Commercial Category, and introducing the concept and efficiency benefits of the Category Management approach to the business.

About you
To be successful in this Commercial Category Manager role, you will need to be able to evidence the following skills and experience:
- A good all-round knowledge and experience of public sector procurement
- Strong awareness of Procurement Regulations 2015, using Crown Commercial Service frameworks and the Digital Marketplace in particular
- Demonstrable experience of effective communication, you can present information to key internal and external stakeholders, ensuring the information is received with impact
- A track record of building valued relationships with stakeholders, helping to support the needs of the business and commercial objectives
- Membership of the Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS), or equivalent, or willingness to work towards achieving this qualification
- Providing commercial guidance and advice to the business, including the latest developments in public sector procurement, in relation to their assigned category
- Planning team requirements, allocating resources and prioritising activities, over the short to medium term by fully understanding the business environment in which the team operates
- Supporting the leadership team’s work to embed the new DVSA Commercial Strategy and the introduction of a Category Management approach, and year on year improvements thereafter, this will include the development, planning, delivery, management, and continuous improvement of their assigned commercial category
- Adopting a Management Information (MI) regime to drive improvement and utilise MI to help inform commercial strategy decisions

There will be occasional travel required with this role to other DVSA locations, including overnight stays.

How to Apply
As part of the application process you will be asked to provide a CV and Personal Statement. Further details around what this will entail are listed on the application form.
For your Personal Statement, please provide detailed evidence of the following:
- Experience of the commercial cycle including pre-competitive supplier engagement, supplier selection, tender evaluation, contract award and ongoing contract management.
- Experience of public sector procurement, e.g. Procurement Regulations 2015 and using Crown Commercial Service frameworks and the Digital Marketplace.
- Experience of operating in a category management environment, or a knowledge of the principles of a category management approach.
Your Personal Statement will be limited to a maximum of 750 words.
The selection process will be designed specifically for the role. As a result, your assessment will include:
- an interview with a presentation
The sift is due to take place 26th April 2023
Interviews/assessments are likely to be held from 15th May 2023
This interview could be conducted via a video interview, details of which will be provided to you should you be selected for interview.
